I keep some bungee cords and extra small diameter rope as well as a 100' 1/2" rope that can be used for almost anything (we frequently tie up a tube or dinghy to it so the kids can go off and play on shore or in the water and we can pull them back). you will find that as you go out more, the more things will accumulate on the boat. We have folding chairs, a beach umbrella, BBQ, extar propane, jump pak, towels, picnic set, corkscrew,dispoable cups, fishing poles, tackle boxes, colouring books, crayons, pads, pens etc... It always amazes me how much stuff I take out of the storage compartments and gunwales at the end of each season.

I think you can leave the points and condenser home unless crownline is installing some really old engines in thier 2010 boats. I would even speculate you don't need the distributor cap or rotor either. Great list good to be prepared.

That is a good list. IMHO, it really depends on the type of boating (location and length of trip) you will be doing...

If you are somewhere remote or planning a longer trip, you want to be more self-sufficient. If you are are in close quarters with lots of other boaters or just going on a day trip, most of that stuff is probably better used to repair the boat at home...

There was a good article in one of the mags recently (or possibly on this forum, I forget....) about the weight of all the gear we haul around.

For a quick day-trip, I think Walt is on the money although I am guilty of having a bunch of extra crap on my boat most of the time....

I'm guilty of having too much crap on board.

I have a few hose clamps and an assortment of plastic wire (zip) ties. Don't know if I'll need them but they don't take up much room.

A few weeks ago the sun was at an angle that we couldn't get much shade so I bought an assortment of plastic spring clamps at the hardware store to clip towels to the bimini for shade. The small one's are also good for potato chip bags. (Crisps for some of you folks!)

I don't really have any engine parts on board, that's what the towing coverage is for!

You definitely can drive yourself nuts with all that....i got two list if you will.....1 - the list of things i put on the boat and keep there.....2 - the list i have to load up each time I go. I keep working to move things to the stay on the boat list.

and remember - no matter what you do put koozies on that boat and leave them there - they always get left behind....kid is in charge of music otherwise he has to listen to old country all day.

No matter what you do you will find something you wish you had out there...but when it comes down to it, if an Indian can carve out a tree trunk and hit the water with a stick we all should be fine.

I used to keep nearly everything listed on my 18' Maxum. I realized I didn't have the storage for it, and didn't need it. I am typically only on the water for a few hours at a time, and trailer home, so I keep any "spares" there. I do keep some basic hand tools in event a hose or electrical connection needs tightened. I also keep a spare prop and wrench, but have never needed it. On a "river" trip, I bring a 5 gal gas can along since there is no place to top-off out there. If I'm at the home lake and need help, I'd just give Doc99 or Busacharger a jingle and be ready to pay with beer!

+1 I set off alone often (from a slip and meet my friends at their house or raft up). A boat hook is a GREAT item to have.
mp3 player and a camera are always on board too. Spare keys to the car (in the boat) and spare keys to the boat (in the car) at ALL times. I've never done it, but been out with friends(trailered boat), and seen the car keys dropped in the water --or gotten to the boat and discovered the keys were on the kitchen table at their house. Really kills the day!!!!
