Post subject:  Convertible Top Snaps?

Hi all, finally the weather will be nice enough to take the boat out this weekend.. can't wait.

We ordered the aft curtain and two side curtains that attach to our existing convertible top through the four winns dealer (who then ordered it through Four Winns). We received the drop shipment straight from Four Winns, but too my suprise yesterday when opening the box, there were no snaps installed in the canvas. There is a zip lock bag full of snaps though.

It appears that we're expected to install the snaps into the aft curtain. I'm going to talk with the Four Winns dealer about this today but was wondering if this is the "norm"...

The snaps mounted on the boat itself ('97 Horizon 200) are the factory installed snaps that the bow and cockpit covers snap too. I "assumed" that the aft curtain would come with the snaps preinstalled...

This is just an idea...

But since you already had the boat and Four Winns didn't, they do not know the placement of the snaps on the boat. Since the snaps, I suppose, are placed depending on the individual person putting the boat together there isn't a standard placement.
Therefore, Four Winns sent everything that is needed to do it correctly and have everything line up the way it should be.

The dealer might be able to attach the snaps to the cover or you could probably do it yourself with the correct tools and a weekend.

This might not of helped, but let us know how it all turns out.

In most cases your dealer would take care of it. Same thing with snap-in carpet. We had ours replaced under warranty and the dealer had to install the snaps since the factory can't possibly know exactly where the "male" halves are.

ahhhh yes said the blind man...

I just finished "dry fitting" the aft curtain and side windows... NOW I understand why they didn't put the snaps in and it's like you guys said, they really wouldn't have know exactly where they needed to be...

Thanks for the replies...

I bought a replacement windshied for my camper top and I had to install the snaps. I already ahd a snap kit and borrowed a punch to make the holes. Punch makes it alot easier.

Punch? Hadn't thought of that... block of wood on the other side of the canvass while you punch?

Something like the old paper punch with a die and anvil that actualy makes a hole by removing some of the fabric.
