Been considering one on the 203, make life easier.

Found this one but don't know who makes it or where to get.

Anybody have any input?

Here is the web page showing install, but no particulars

install

Update: it is a Mercury Transom Mounted Power Tilt Panel!!!

after exhaustive searhing on net. (i am sure my employeer would be proud)

But the big question is will it work with a penta system?

It's the most useful accessory on our boat and I can't believe everyone doesn't add them.

If you can be more specific about your boat and engine model, I might be able to help with the parts recommendations.

Mike

it's a 203 with a volvo Penta 5.0 GL with a SX drive.

Really like the look of this one out of all I saw.

I have a tilt switch in the bow as well, as this is a F&S, now trying to figure out how to disable that when not fishing (kids lean up against it constantly, sometime when running - ack) Looked at using a gaurded windlass switch, but may just add a hiden switch to disable the switch in the bow. Mayb a small switch in helm? Ideas?

Thanks

I would just love to know how much one of these would cost! I would love to get one for the new 180. I can see that this would make my life alot easier... Any ideas on how much? I asume I can order it through a Mercury dealer?

The part number for the Volvo Penta switch (they refer to it as a "control panel") is 3855650. I don't know if the just-redesigned latest generation of VP drives use a different switch, but they might since I believe the trim pump system is different too. You may have to look pretty hard to find a picture of one, but I saw one someplace. I've been very happy with it, although the cost of the part alone is around $70.

Saw this one in my searches, little to industrial looking for my tastes. Think it would kill the clean look. But thanks though.

Wow 70 buckes, wonder if I could make the Merc on work, maybe some splicing etc, only 35 bucks.

Thanks all for input, now if I can figure out a gurd for the bow switch I will be golden.

Dug up this old thread looking for a switch. After a brief search online I found the generic switch above for $19.95:

http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/transom_trim.cfm

Only thing is they won't tell you shipping charges until it ships.

I'll post again if shipping's excessive.

What do you guys use the switch for that cant be done before you get out of the boat? I had one on my last 2 bass boats and might have used them twice combined. Just wondering, not flaming.

I use mine to raise and lower the drive before and after towing. I don't like having the boat sit in storage with the drive up, so this makes it easy to put back down when I get to my destination. I'm not AR about it, if it needs to stay up for a couple of days I don't worry about it, but not for extended periods. When on the trailer, I'd have to have a 6' step ladder to reach the throttle trim without getting back into the boat.

The transom tilt switch is nice to have for one man launching and retrieving. Also, my habits are such that I'll leave the drive in shallow water position when on my boat lift. No big deal, but part of the drive is generally in the water even when the boat is cranked up. I can't tell you how many times I've buttoned the boat up, and then realized I forgot to raise the drive completely out of the water. Undoing part of the tie downs for the mooring cover to get my arm in far enough over the side windshield to be able to reach down and hit the trim switch is a pain, and probably amusing for others to watch. The pontoon's Suzuki outboard has one, and even there I do find it useful on occasion.

Right now, I've got the Sundowner rear bench pulled, and batteries out of the boat for the stereo upgrades I'm doing, so the timing's good for an install (if it gets to me before this weekend).

Has anyone thought about using a wireless remote???

Since installing the remote for my lights, I've been toying with the idea of using a set of relays from the same to run the tilt up/down. It would be nice when I beech, or just a final check when loading on the trailer. Not too difficult, just a little engenuity with a splash of creativity. The whole remote system was about $90.. not much more than the one you have advertised, but a lot less "visible".

I like your idea Walt ... a remote that operates a couple relays or a double throw relay, would be easy enough.

I hate it when I get it on the trailer and have it all buttoned up and forgot to fully raise the drive....... or have it down for some type of work, on the trailer, and then button it all up .... forgetting to raise the drive.

I'll look into it when I have time. If so, it'll be on the "Walt's Mods" thread as soon as I figure it out.
