Shot another coat of black on the drive. Then broke out the buffing wheel on the drill and restored the shine to the Mirage prop

Well calling for 70% all weekend. Rain. Woke this morning and it was not raining yet so I figured I'd make the most of it and get something done. So I crawled in under the morning cover and got the bow nonskid all pretty.

Same way I cleaned the swimplatform nonskid. With the Ajax with 2x bleach sof scrubb. What I do is squirt it out on the area. Then I use a sponge with the scrubb pad on one side or a green mean scrubb pad. Smear it all around even coat over the area and let it sit for about 5min or so. Then I scrub in a circle motion all over the area. I do this process twice. Then I will seal the non skid with a 3M non skid sealer once the rain stops and the area is good and dry.

Over the weekend I grabbed 3x 6.5"x23" fenders. Ill but splice roped to thin in the evenings this week. I also got a new winch strap as the current one was frayed and at some point broke and previous owner had tied a not to the hook.

Past 3 days we have been in flash flood warning lake has rise over a foot. But I have looks like 2 evenings of no rain so going to put in a late night and try and wrap a few items up off of the list. And get the last coat paint on the drive for hopefull install Wednesday so I can run boat Friday.

This rain has been putting a major delay on my work. I need a larger shop that the boat can fit in. Major requirement at the next house here in the very close future.

Re routed the speaker wires and the power wires to the amp.

Used these stick on zip tie mounts. Man these things are great no drilling perfect for a boat with minimally ting locations for screws.

Wrapped the 2 speaker wires that go to the rear in braded mesh wire wrap. To keep things neat in the little section you can see them.

Before work I hit the shop. Cut a couple backer pieces for the breaker and power panel. Epoxi laminated them to the panel. Last night I did a wet send to knock down any raises and smooth the drive. Added the final oat of clear this morning. She will get a light 1000, 2,000 and a buff and get installed this evening possibly Wednesday. Depends. But today more will be done. Last of wiring, replace winch strap, and as many odds and ends I can jam into an evening. She is coming along.

So today was well not productive and less than spectacular. I started after work greesed the U-joints and shaft splines. She slid in and couple twists the shaft lines right up. Then 1/4" from all in thud stop bound up. Yep was stuck. Took 45min to remove. Uuuh. Then to top it off the shaft slipped and tore the gasket... Awesome. Guess try find one local tomorrow or order one and be delayed a week. Well things happen that's life.

So to not have a total bust day I put new eye terminals on the wires for the high speed fuel pump. Got that all cleaned up.

The wench strap needed replacing so I replaced it.

There are a couple of things tha make putting the drive on easier. One use the alignment bar to set the gimble bearing in position. It moves enough that if it is tilted a bit the drive shaft will not go in. Two a stand with wheels under it really helps to get it at the right height and that is what it takes to make it slide on. I make a wood cart and that worked pretty well, then I found a metal cart with an adjustable jack (google Stumpy's Fab Works) and that works great. It has taken me anywhere from 10 min th an hr to get it on the old way (sometimes I had to use a floor jack under the wood cart) this time with the metal one it went on in 2 min. Well worth it if you go your own work

Well... In 17 years of maintaining my OMC Cobra (removing the drive at least a dozen times, and removing the engine twice), I never had an alignment tool. I always greased the U-joints when apart, and greased the gimble bearing 2-3 times per year through the external zerk fitting. Never had to replace U-joints or gimble bearing.

However, now that I have a blueprint for the tool, I will probably make one for my newer VP drive. Checking the alignment can help prevent damage to the splines and engine coupling.

You need to know if your alignment is right, if it's off you can destroy a $300 coupler, get stranded and then get to pull the engine to replace it. I would never do an engine r/r without one. Every stern drive shop manual tells you this. The same tool works for OMC, Volvo and most Merc.

The bar and the drive cart with the jack make it 100% easier. I am 57 years old and been doing this stuff over 40 years and don't have the patience to fight with these jobs to save a few bucks.
Oh and I also have the special OMC tools to adjust the shift cable, makes it a 10 min job.

Well found the gasket kit local for $7 so ill grab one after work and get the drive installed. Mechanic said I should not need an align tool unless I have moved the motor. The align tool is intended for if you have reinstalled the motor and should not be needed. Most likely the small sludge buildup and possibly something from finger when greasing caused the bind. Said 99% sure it was the build up I described deep in the splines and that commonly happens with older drives. Wire brush was the correct solution and should slide right in now that it is good and clean.
