some have seen on Facebook but i need to archive here.

The tung was getting CRUSTY with some cancer, the jack pooped out skipping gears, and the coupler was cancer. SO brand spanking new FULTON: Chains, Coupler, Jack, grade 8 hardware, cancer removal, rust preventer primer, then 5 coats of Blue.

I had to evict some squatting residence.

To remove the rust i use a corded power drill and a wire wheel.

I took a guess on one of the FULTON center bolt jacks that it would fit over the factory welded on mount and the bet paid out. Fits perfect.

Nice. Do you need to take the whole side panel off to install that or can you work it in through one of the openings in the panel? I have the same one for my boat have not installed it yet.

Hopefully I can pass thru. It was raining yesterday. I'm doing a few things in the house waiting on the sun so the boat is not in the shade.

I have to admit I bought the control a few years back and was to lazy to futz with it because with a boat this age there are always more pressing issues. I tried to remove the side panel on that side (on my boat these are huge) and they way that they are attached it is not easy. There are threaded studs that are screwed into the wood. There is a nut on each one that holds the stud in a hole drilled in the 'glass panel behind it. What was happening with mine was of course, the nuts are corroded to the studs and both are spinning when you try to remove them. However, I measured the new control and what I can get to of the OE OMC control box, and it may fit through the opening in the forward end of the panel right below the control, or after disconnecting the cables on the engine end, and the wiring for the trim control and neutral ss, you might be able to pull the whole thing backwards out the rear end of the panel, which has a large open area.
Since it blew a head gasket at the end of last season, my boat won't be in the water for a while as I determine if I want to replace this engine or try re-doing the old one with a set of rebuilt heads and all new gaskets. So I will have time to do the control then as I won't be rushing to get it in the water.

well today was EXCITING.

OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW.

The process was not overly difficult or time consuming. All in all it was about 2 hours of work, multiple in and out of the boat for tools and such. The process was not terrible, though I had an idea of what was involved, along with reading the instructions last night and again this morning to make sure I was up to pace with the new model.

removal of the old was easy as i have done it about 7x now over the years.

Next was to assemble the cable brackets per the guidelines of the chart that gave the correct holes for select years and guidelines.

Image

Image

trace out the new location and start the cutting.

Image

to cut the radius needed for the new control i used a drill bit and made multiple holed connecting to produce the new arch. I then used the bit and side to side broke the thin wall between then.

That's a Teleflex CH1700. Thanks for the pix you inspired me to get mine done! It's just a bit colder up here in NY vs SC. We were in Charlston SC for vacation this summer, great town!

Looks like I will need this CH1751P for the control and then this 212151-003 in order to connect the stock cables too.

yards and yards of materials were ordered yesterday. I am cleaning the shop tonight and prepping things for some upholstery work this weekend and the coming evenings.
