I have a 1996 19' horizon Four winns that came on the original Four Winns trailer. I would like to verify what size tires are suppose to be on this trailer as I bought this unit used. any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Tracy

Is it a single or a tandem axle trailer?
If a single it probably has 6-lug 15" rims and you can put 225/75-15 D rated trailer tires on it.
If a tandem I'm not sure but if you go on the FW website you may be able to look it up (customer service)...

It's a single axle with five lug nuts. I sent an e-mail to Four Winns customer service a couple days ago and have not heard back from them so I thought I would post on here. Thanks for your response Lou.

Then I'd go with what I have above you can get that size in a C rating (2150 lbs @ 50 psi) or a D rating (2500 lbs @ 65 psi). With trailer tires a bit more safety margin is a good thing. I have my '88 H-200 (lighter than the more modern boats of the same size) on a single axle with 5 lug rims, the same tires and its been fine. I don't tow far though, just to the boat ramp, which is 1/2 mile. The longest tow was to the 'glass shop for the paint job, about 17 miles from here.

Me and you have "almost" the same boat, altho mine is about a foot longer and bit heavier, but I have the 5 lug 15 inch rims. I can't recall the actual tire size/rating right now, but I"ll look in the morn and let ya know.

Oh, lets see some pics of your boat! 8)

I got a reply from Four Winns Tech that indicated a ST255/75R15 D six lug as the standard set up for a single axle trailer. My trailer has a five lug pattern. Wondering if I need to change out to a six lug. Any thought on this?

Ok, checked this morning and oops, I have the 6 lug, not 5 (was thinking of sailboat trailer). Anyways, I have D rated, ST225 75R15 tires on it.

How far do you trailer to water? What kinda terrain do you go thru (hills, rough road, lava fields, swamp)? I'm no trailer expert, by any means, but I think for a 19" bow rider, the 5 lug setup would be ok.

The 5 lug axle usually has a capacity of 3500 or sometimes 3700 lbs, the 6 lug can be 5200 or 6000 so there is a big difference between them. I checked the spec on the single axle trailer for my old '88 and they used a 5 lug hub but it must have had a larger bearing assembly (not a common size) because it was rated at about 4200 lbs. Initially I thought this was a mis print in the old spec sheet on the FW site but I have found pix of this trailer on the web and it is in fact a 5 lug hub, but with a heavier capacity bearing. One way to tell for sure is look at the GVWR for the trailer. That tells you the max weight it can hold INCLUDING the weight of the trailer so the axle, springs and tires must be able to support that weight.

The GVWR for the single axle trailer is listed as 4800 lb. I don't think my boat with 130 hp outboard and trailer weigh anywhere close to that amount. Wish there was a scale near where I live but there is not one. I will be towing the boat 2 or three times during the summer about 100 miles one way.
