Hi all,
I partially covered this in another thread, however, I am after advice on what prop would best suit my boat & needs. Only just purchased the boat and had it in the water once.
I have a H220 with a 5.7 Merc & Bravo 1 leg. I will be using the boat mainly for wakeboarding, sea biscuits etc, which require low speed planning. At the moment my prop is a 3 blade 19P and I am finding that it drops off the plane at around 3000 revs.
I need a prop with low end torque to get me up and going quicker and also plane at lower revs. I aren't concerned about top speed but need to consider fuel economy.

I have been advised that a merc 5 blade SS 19P would be perfect.

Any other suggestions................???

Thanks in advance, Craig

I am trying to decide between the Merc HighFive and the Revolution 4. I think I am going to go with the HighFive, but I am not totally sure yet. Plus I have to figure out if I need the 17P or 19P which I will do once I can get by boat back on the water and check out exactly what my WOT RPM's are. My only concern about the highfive is that I have read it is not as effective around the dock, specifically in reverse. But I think it will give better hole shot and better speed control than the Rev 4. That being said, the Rev 4 might be worth a look too.

Hi Craig,

You'll need to determine your maximum RPM while lightly loaded and trimmed.
You may already have a less than ideal prop on your boat to start with.

Trim tabs or smart tabs can help out with lowering planing speeds further.

The High-5 was built for your intended purpose. It's a nice (and expensive) option.

You might look at the 4-blade offerings from Precision Propeller. I've had great success with them in the past - and I have friends that swear by them.

For an H220, you'd probably want to look at the Turbo-Prop 2+2 TH or the Stiletto Bay-Pro III. They are both pretty aggressive props with good lift (to help planing). Some dealers will let you take a loaner prop out for a test drive. So, be sure to shop around.

Good luck!

From the investigating that I have done so far, it looks like the High 5 might be the go. As you mentioned BartsPlace, its not cheap.......around $1,000.00 AUS.

This is the prop that my boat mechanic first suggested. He is taking it for a run on the water either today or Monday to check out maximum RPM's.

Cheers, Craig

I recently imported a Solas HR Titan 4 and am exceptionally happy with how the boat now performs.
MUCH cheaper than the High Five!!!

I really think you could budget-solve this by using a cheap 3 blade 17P prop. You'll need to be mindful not to over rev the engine but it should work well for your lower speed needs.

Disagree. For what he is trying to do, the 4th/5th blades make a HUGE difference. A 3 blade really won't do it well enough without dropping down so low that you would be over revving.

My boat is getting tested on the water today.
We have narrowed it down to either a 17P High 5 Merc SS Prop or the same thing in a 19P.
Let you know how I go.

Cheers, Craig

Can't wait to hear the results. That's exactly what I am trying to determine...17P or 19P

Hey Seth, my boat expert man ended up choosing the 19P prop. Yet to test it out myself. Will let you know once I do.

Cheers, Craig

I wonder how much the difference in engine will make. I've got the 5.0 with 1.60 drive ratio. Looking forward to the results. I hope to get out tomorrow for the first run of the season. If I do, I will check out my max rpm. Keep me posted.

One more thing. If you think of it, pay attention to the new prop's attitude around the dock. I have heard that one of the downsides is reverse thrust.

Picked up my boat this afternoon.
They ended up putting a 19P on it. My boat guy took it for a run after fitting the prop and claims that it performs really well. Hoping to try it out this Thursday.

Cheers, Craig
