I have a 2005 FW Horizon 210 with Volvo 5.7 Gi. My speedometer stopped working so I checked the pitot tube and noticed that about 3 inches of it are missing from the speedo pickup . I wanted to pull the extra 3 inches of the tube from the hull and plug it back into the pickup but I am not sure about how to remove the plastic clip holding the tube where it goes inside the hull. I know that there are 2 screws that I removed but the whole thing appears to be glued onto the hull. Perhaps the whole tube is glued to it so that the water can’t get in? I guess my question is, is this this really glued on and what kind of glue could I use to put it back on? Should I replace the tube entirely? It seems to be in great shape and it probably broke because it got snagged onto something. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The holes are probably sealed up with a sealant like 3M 4200/5200....That would also serve to stick the cover in place, in addition to the screws.

After purchasing 3M 4200, I tried removing this piece

but I am not having much luck. Seems to be glued very well on there. I am wondering if I even need to remove the part of the tube that goes through the hull. Can't I just yank it out of this thing and plug a new longer tube into it and then into the pickup

Or is the tube it one piece where I have to get the old stuff off. I feel like I will have a lot of difficulty removing the old 3M 4200 or whatever was used. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You can extend the tube you have by adding a piece of hose with a double ended hose barb fitting. It will even give you a place to disconnect if you need to blow out a clog.

That is a great idea. I already ordered a barb fitting and a new tube. Thank you for your help.

Are you replacing the tube from the inside of the boat?

I am trying to avoid replacing the whole tube. Only about 4 inches is missing from the speedo pickup going up the transom and into the hull. I initially saw a cut there at first when my speedometer stopped working but haven't done anything about it and over time the 4 inch piece of the tube went missing. I still haven't received the barb fitting so I haven't had a chance to see if it will work.

What's a normal one look like? I'm thinking mine is missing. It isn't working either.

I am not sure that you have this type of tube because mine is Volvo Penta SX and yours is OMC. Hopefully somebody will be able to comment on OMC. But on volvo penta sx and dp, the tube is located here:

Ignore the red circles, that's the best photo I could find online. It's the black tube just to the right of the outdrive.

I know on my OMC it looks exactly like the one in the picture.

If you have a VDO instrument panel (automotive style), then the "normal" pickup is a paddle wheel and a wire.

If you have round gages, then the vast majority use a pitot tube as shown in the pictures above. There are a few exceptions, as you can even buy a GPS based round speedometer.
