Anyone mount a handheld GPS on the dash of a newer Horizon? I have a GPSMap60cs that I want to mount using Ram components. Is there a good spot to drill in and mount this base?

I'd look for a panel that is cheap & easy to replace. So if you ever remove it, you don't regret it.

I cannot think of a good place. I used the suction cup mount with the flexible support to the inside of the windscreen. Over the winter, it was "mis-handled" in my luggage, and the suction cup part no longer works. I'm going to cut off the suction cup, and wire tie the support to my windscreen support left of the dash. This is closest to my 12V outlets. That's where it was used most frequently last summer.

Somebody relocated the cubby that houses the 12V outlet and aux audion input to the side of the console and then mounted their GPS in place of where the cubby was...it was VERY nice looking. I am not sure where I saw it (I am fairly sure on here somewhere thought).

I also saw that thread on the cubby relocate - very nice. If I weren't on my pda I'd dig up a link. Post a pic of your dash, and we might be able to help with other ideas. Only thing I can come up with now is to use a piece of starboard to cover part of the cubby on a temporary basis. This would let you mount it and go back to stock if you find that position a nuisance.

I saw that installation where the cubby is but my GPS is a handheld model and wouldnt fit there. Plus I want it higher in my field of view rather than looking down. Thanks for the tips but I guess I will just figure it out in the spring. Not too excited about drilling into the dash but that Ram mount is great and can be used for any handheld device so even if I wanted a place to mount my BlackBerry, etc.

For a higher mount with greater field of view, you might be able to work a clamp style mount onto the windsheild support brace.



Maybe a mounting clamp with a short arm to exend it starboard away from the pass through?

I tend to agree with Jim_R on that one.

I would think the last thing you want to do is put holes in that nice top-dash panel.

Or - somehow mount to the windshield or frame.

I wouldn't put it down in the cubby unless you spend most of your driving time sitting with your butt in the seat. Visibility while standing or on the bolster would undoubtedly be poor.

Look cool, but hardly functional.

I agree with Jim also, but if I remember right the low cut wind screen os the SS has a realy short support bar if any? Havn't seen the inside of my boat in months so I can't remember.

Thanks Jim - that photo is great and yes I think a clamp on that brace might be perfect (and I have the higher windshield). I have used a handlebar clamp on snowmobile and mountain bike handlebars and could try the same setup.

What do you think the diameter of that support brace is? 3/4"?

I love the 60cs by the way. Have used it around the world over the past 6-7 years and it has been fantastic. Bought the map software for Europe and it took me all through Italy and the UK with no paper maps needed.

Just had it replaced by Garmin when the two zoom buttons stopped working. For about half of retail value they gave me a new unit. Not bad service in my opinion.

Yeah, 3/4" for the top portion sounds about right. Post a pic when you have it mounted up!

I love the RAM suction cup mount on the windshield. I know that isn't what you're asking for. Perfect positioning (for me at least) and look ma, no holes.
