I just purchased a 2003 210 Horizon. The raw water pump needs to be replaced due to it leaking while running. It looks like it would be a much easier job with the rear seat removed. Does anyone have any tips for removing the rear seat, or is it just easier to change the water pump and pulley from the engine bay?

I assume you have the "Sunsport" Seating? Please post picture.

I have the sunsport seating, and have done impeller changes without removing the seat. Quite awkward hanging over the engine.

I did remove the entire rear seat once, and had good access for removing and rebuilding the raw water pump. I also changed the circulations pump while I had access. My Sunsport seat has an upper back rest that is stationary, and a lower back rest and bottom cushion that can fold out like a futon. Here were the basic steps to remove the seat. Could take two people about an hour:

(starboard" refers to the white plastic panels)
1. In engine bay, remove any partitions at sides of engine that attach to back of seat.
2. In engine bay, remove starboard panels at the two sides which extend into side pocket area.
3. In engine bay, remove any nuts which attach the upper backrest to the starboard.
4. Under side gunnels, remove any nuts and screws which attach the upper backrest to gunnels. (use a mirror to see)
5. Remove the upper backrest.
6. Remove 4 screws which attach the "futon" to the starboard base (the screws which slide in slots.)
7. Remove the "futon"
8. Remove all screws which attach the base to the floor.
9. Remove the base in one piece.
(use sealer when re-installing any screws into the floor)

I re-did my boat to make this easier. The older boats had a big wooden bulkhead running across the width of the boat that was the seat back actually and the seat cushion was attached to that. You had to slide it all forward (real heavy). When that all rotted out, I rebuilt it, with a bulkhead going across the boat in front of the engine and the 2 divider panels on each side. I cut that bulkhead in half from top to bottom, and used a hinge in the middle that comes apart. Its all held together with bolts and wing nuts. For the seat I used 2 36" couches for a pontoon boat. So I lift one out, undo the divider on that side and open the bulkhead like a door. Starboard side for starter changes, port side for oil filter changes. Much easier. Why could they not make the factory set up like this? After you are a backyard mechanic for a few years (like 40+) you like to find ways to make things easier.....
Good luck!!!
