 Post subject: Engine hatch won't open

I have a 2005 Horizon 230 with a manual engine hatch. I lift a handle, turn it to the right and it used to easily lift with gas shocks. I do not remember a latch under the handle just that you turn it for better leverage. I cannot see the latch because the engine is in the way and then there are dividers between the engine compartment and the side storage lockers.

Anyone have this happen or have any ideas?
