2000 Four Winns Horizon 180 F & S

I have a secondary Fish Finder/GPS unit I would like to put on my boat. The transducer is a transom mount. With the research I have done I am confident in mounting the transducer. My next issue is wiring the transducer. I do not have an open spot on the transom to feed the wiring back into the boat. Looking for suggestions on how to properly do this for long term success. Any and all
suggestions are welcome.

Maybe I'm not understanding your question right but when I bought my Lowrance Elite 4 HDI earlier this summer I had to drill a 1" hole through the transom to run the wire.

Typically you have to drill through the transom, feed the cable through and seal up the hole. That's what I did and it was not hard to do.

If you have a West Marine near you - go in and ask them. They were full of knowledge and had lots of good suggestions.

I will be drilling a hole for mine and then installing a grommet around the wire where it enters the hole - and then silicone the entrance and wire, and install the grommet to seal it all up.

Just don't forget - clean up your site you will be drilling, then put masking tape down over the area. Press it down well to make sure it stays where you want it. Use a new drill bit - And gloves, long sleeves and eye protection. I also found it helps to have someone on the opposite side (inside) with a running vacuum cleaner to clean up the dust as the bit goes through. then go over to the other side with the vac and clean up the hole. Finally use a piece of tack cloth to clean up any dust where you intend to use silicone.

Yep you gots to drill a hole, the size of which is determined by the size of the connecter on the end of the cable. The best way to do this, is to seal the opening with epoxy and let that cure. IE do not plug the opening with it but brush it inside the hole, so the fiberglass and the core of the transom (and in a 2000 model year boat that will be wood) are sealed. This way even if the sealer you use to seal up the hole failed, you still won't get water in the transom. Then you can put a clamshell over it to make it look nice. For sealer silicone is not the best choice, use a marine sealant like Life Seal or Life Caulk, 3M 4200 or Silkaflex....
