Fish finder transducer mounting on 1995 Horizon 190

Has anyone mounted a Lowrance transducer on the back of a Horizon 190? Would it go on the very back
of the transom or on the cut in where the outdrive is mounted? The speedo is mounted on the cut in next to the outdrive but I am worried about water disruption from the outdrive messing up the image. Any help would be appreciated.

I would definitely mount it on the cut-in next to the outdrive (the real transom). The back of the extended planning surfaces would be plagued with bubbles that would interfere with your transducer.

In most cases, the transducer would be mounted in line with the first "chine" so that it can be level to the surface and point more or less straight down.

Since you are in front of the prop and exhaust, there will be no interference from the outdrive.

I just installed mine on my 180. I WAS going to mount it out in that location. but in wanting to put it on the water, that project is shelved. I instead installed it inside the bilge. I tried it out last week and had no issues. Depth matched the dash gauge, and terrain (and I imagine fish - wasn't looking) came in as expected. If you are going to mount it to the transom, I would invest in a mounting block. This assures you if it's not "just right" or if heaven forbid it dies and the new one needs a different hole pattern, you are only drilling more holes into the block rather than your transom. Just my .02.

I tend to agree. No big deal putting 2-3 screw holes in with sealer...especially for those of us who trailer.

Yep,
Stern Saver is the name, sorry for the confusion.

Kind of a personal choice for sure. Once you drill into a haul, then you have to make sure it stays sealed over the years.

Especially with foam filled hauls, a good selling point is no screws holes below the waterline. My little 13' Whaler sold to the 1st person that seen it. They commented that they liked the fact that is was free of any screw holes.

Just a personal preference.

Pick the size. Trim to fit if needed. Mount on the transom with 3m 5200 and 2 screws, no lower than flush with the bottom of the hull. You can mount the transducer inside the hull but any temperature reading capability probably won't work.

Here is a picture:of the 268's installation. My 95 190 was very similar, but just one transducer.

I think on a new boat certainly the stern saver makes sense. On an older boat you can fill old holes with epoxy and install the stern saver over that. On mine the holes for the old and new transducer lined up so I just made sure to seal the screws well (don't tighten them down all the way, tighten most of the way and then let the sealer set up). Then tighten them down later. This way the sealer doesn't get squeezed out....

do you have any pics or can you go into more detail of mounting it in the bilge?

The Directions advise to mount using epoxy...

But not wanting to permanently mount it there, I used clear silicone. Simply scuff the fiberglass with some fine grit sandpaper, apply silicone approx 4-6" up from the deepest point of bilge and press transducer into silicone, wiggle it slightly to push out any air. Let dry 24 hours and it's set. It works good enough for now, but will be removed next winter - it has temperature built in so it will be nice to see how cold the water is.

Follow your owners manual for settings for depth.
