occasionally i get warning a beep and the red triangle warning light, that's next to the engine light, pops up. Its done it probably 4 times now and seems to come on after ive been crusing pretty good at around 4,000 rpm for 10 or 15 minutes. Temp is around 175* at the time
Any idea where to start looking?

2011 Horizon H240
5.7 GI Volvo with 95 hours

about 15 hours ago, the water pump bearing seized up on me so i was towed back in. I was able to get the bearing out and i replaced it and a new impeller. Just a lil background info if it matters.
thanks!

anyone have an idea on this? it happened a couple times friday while the wife and i were out. temp was steady at 175* so im dont believe overheating is this issue like when the water pump locked up on me last year.

Does this monitor just engine temp, or does it monitor engine temp and oil pressure? 175 is not high and its the upper end of normal which is 160-175. Most temp alarms go off at about 200*F.

When you say "after" you have been cruising at 4000 rpm, do you mean
1. while you are still at 4000 rpm, or
2. after you return to idle.

If number 2, then it could be a low oil pressure alarm. I had that a couple times, and it turned out I needed a new oil pressure sensor. The oil pressure was fine when measured with a mechanical oil pressure gage.

LOUC,
from what i can tell it monitors more than just engine temp (from what ive been reading from one end of the internet to the other). When the water pump bearing went out on me the alarm went off and the temp was over 200*. Ever since that day this alarm issue has been happening, never prior to the water pump going out. which i had not owned the boat very long before the water pump issue.

RPENGR,
the alarm goes off WHILE CRUISING so i immediately stop amd put it in neutral and the red triangle goes away and the alarm stops. I did look at the oil pressure when i put it in nuetral and it was around 10 best guess (goes from 0-40-80 on the gage), then jumps up to 50ish when i returned to speed. sound about normal?

It should be higher than 10 @ idle. Was the oil changed after the overheat? If not it could be thinned out causing low pressure. Also do not use automotive grade multi Vis oils in a marine engine. Either use the Merc 25/40, Volvo Syn 10/40 or 15/40 from Shell, Chevron or Pennzoil....

It was NOT changed last year after the overheat. I did change it last fall while winterizing it though and DID use automotive oil, but the alarm has happened pre and post the oil change. Ill be changing the lower unti oil in a couple of days as well.
