Sandra just posted pics of this on the Facebook Group.

Never knew FW made a jet other than the Fling.

Yep, back in about 1995 they offered a 190 Horizon with a jet drive. Performance was not as good as an I/O with a prop, but it was a "jet" for those that wanted one.

I found it in the 1996 Catalog which indicates it could be had with the 5.0 or 5.8 engines. I have never seen one for sale before.

I have seen one come up for sale a couple times on Craigslist in my area over the past year - not sure if there are two of them or the same one is getting passed around (both had the 302 with thru-hull exhaust so maybe it's the same one?). Anyway, here is a link to the ad - now you can say you have seen one for sale! :)

I bought a 1995 H190 with the jet drive late last fall with the 5.8 HO. Rather clean craft with a wake tower added to it. A little tinkering and it's shaping up to be a nice addition to the family :D

I'm struggling with verification of the exact motor. I have the original Redline sticker and it shows 5.8 L HO (the O almost looks like a C but that doesn't make sense). My issue is if it's truly a HO or a standard 5.8. The HO is supposed to have GT40 heads and push 285HP. I went to change the spark plugs today and the correct plugs for a 1995 Redline 5.8 HO is an NGK BPR6EFS. The plug that was in it was an Autolite 25. The cheap and dirty is thread reach, the HO is 17.5mm and the standard is 11.2mm. The Autolite 25 is only 11.2. I'm concerned if the longer reach plug will try to mate with the top of the piston. I see the difference is the longer thread will do blah blah blah but I'm concerned piston vs. plug.

It's the only photo I have right now.... Last weekend out I managed to completely tear off the left trim tab and hydraulic ram?!?!?!?! So I have begun the removal of the hydraulic trim system completely and changing to the Smart Trim SX.

Look on the front of the heads for 3 or 4 cast in bars to signify GT40/P heads or they are standard E7 castings.

That's not the correct position for the trim tabs on a Horizon. Those extension boxes ("Extended Running Surfaces") do not have the internal structure that the Real Transom has (where your drive is mounted). Also, having the trim tabs mounted back there is inconvenient (and hazardous) to your swimmers jumping or climbing off the back of the boat.

If you are going to do any modifications to the trim tabs, I would cut them down a little more narrow, and put them up onto the real transom on either side of your drive.

Here is an example:

VERY nice! I completely felt that was odd in their existing location. I've removed the remnants of the left and all of the right side as well as removing the pump, hydraulic lines, controls and wiring. I fiberglassed in the holes, sanded it all down and applied the first coat of gel coat last night. I've got a busy weekend out of town so I won't get to tinker until next week but definitely installing the new trim tabs where the belong. THANK YOU for the heads up!

You must have been having some fun to tear off the trim tab.

Does it even need trim tabs? How does it handle with a jet drive?

I wonder if the articulation of the jet drive would keep you from installing the trim tabs like you would on a typical stern drive? But I agree, the current location is not right for the reasons previously mentioned.

The jet articulates about the last 10" (1/3rd ish) of the full extended apparatus that you can see in the photo. I THINK trim tabs will be ok in their 'proper' location. I have an issue with the factory depth finder and the add-on fish finder's transmitters that occupy the same area where I want to put the trim tabs.

To answer the question, yea, it does need something. With the Ford 351 it's pretty heavy in the back and it's just a touch lethargic getting up on plane. I haven't gotten to ski behind it yet, I'm not worried about it having enough umph to get a skier outta the water just feels like I'm trying to boat up hill quite a bit longer than I expect. The jet propulsion can get a little squirrel-ly. The Smart Tabs SX I'm hoping to get the boat up on plane quicker and take a little of the side-to-side over-steer (think oversized jet ski) feel out of it.
