I just pressure tested my outdrive. I set it at 15 psi. It slowly dropped to 10 psi in an hour but then held 10 psi overnight. Is this good or should I look at replacing seals. ????
Thanks Rob

Sounds like it worked some crud out if a seal. If you are a trailer boater, I would not be concerned at all.

If you are about to put it on a mooring or dock for a season, I would consider running it some, then testing again. Still, if it held at 10psi all night it does not sound like you have any issue.

Which drive? I have the factory test procedure if you want it for a Volvo.

I just wanted to give an update on my outdrive seal. Volvo Penta SX on a 2003 Horizon 180 with 5.0 GL engine.
Last July when I took the boat out of the water I noticed foamy outdrive oil. I refilled with new oil and stored the boat for the winter. Prior to putting the boat in late June I emptied the oil and ran a pressure test on the outdrive. It would not hold 15 psi but held 10 psi overnight. So I took a chance and replaced all 3 of the o-rings in the fill and drain and level check plugs. When I pulled the boat out after a month in the water the oil was clear and clean. Looks like I just had a bad o-ring.

I'm not sure what their spec is for the pressure it should hold but I always replace the fiber sealing washers on my Cobra and have not had milky gear oil for many years.
