Last weekend it finally warmed up enough in Michigan to think about getting my boat out of storage and prep it for boating season.

I put a set of ear muffs on the stern drive and started the boat with no issue.
Then I asked my son to check the gear lube level on the stern drive, he said dad there is water coming out which kind of freaked me out

I checked what screw he removed and it wasn’t the dip stick screw, in fact according to the Cobra Part Stern Drive part Catalog this screw doesn’t exist. The parts catalog shows this as being a “Medallion, OCM Cobra” emblem, see the picture links below for where the screw came from on the port side of the stern drive. This emblem is also on the starboard side of the drive too. I peeled back the stern drive emblem and there is no screw there.

There is no threads where the screw came from, it looks kind of like the screw was glued in.
One of the guys at work thought this port might be for flushing out the cooling system?

pictures are here http://s299.photobucket.com/user/andylvm3/library/Boat

thanks,

Andy

Looks like you will be removing the drive and fishing the retainer for that bolt out of the water passage. Pick up a Cobra transom gasket and some OMC gasket sealer. You got the manusl so that's good!
BTW the pic on the manual is flipped, that bolt is on the port side not starboard as in the pic...

Some guy in the FB group had this exeact problem (post is from May 5th) and here is the text for his solution which I thought was clever...

"Mechanics wire with a magnet on the end fished it right out"

"So if you wondering how I fixed it. I sell live coral for a living. And by that we use a lot of thick superglue underwater. So if you get the super glue a touch wet it will activate it and make it start sticking right away. So I took the nut and dabbed a touch of the superglue to the ends of it. Splashed a touch of water to activate it , then used tweezers to put it in the hole and glue into the inside of the housing. Centered it the best I could. I let it set up for a few minutes. Popped the plastic on and carefully screwed it on till it bit."

That's interesting. Do you "farm raise" live coral and get contracts to seed it in ocean reefs? Or just for private aquariums?
Just curious.
