Alright
So I replaced my VDO cluster with all new gauges... They work great my only problem is that I lost my thru hull depth sounder
I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is any way to get an aftermarket display that will work with my transducer...I don't really want to chip the old one out and have to buy a new one
Thanks
Nate

Did you replace the cluster with a reman VDO cluster or completely different gauges? If so they are able to be calibrated to work. Your other option is to leave the existing transducer in place and just install a shoot-thru near it somewhere.

Hey
No I did not go with the reman one... 900$ was a little steep for me. I got a wiring diagram and put in a teleflex combo kit that I paid 200 for...yah putting it beside is a good idea are there any specific brands that are better/ more accurate than others and what are these worth approximately

Why don't you just buy a cheap fishfinder with a transom mounted transducer? That way you'd get a visual display of what the bottom is doing/ how it's changing, as well as a numerical depth display ( even if you cdon't use it to find fish). I must admit I never routinely look at by dash depth dsplay, I use the display on the fishfinder. ( they read within about 0.1m of each other)

I recently replaced my Faria unit that was in the boat from the factory with one that displayed air and water temp. PM me if you're interested in the one I took out, it should work with your existing transducer.

This is it:

Was it plug and play ? Or did you have to add anything?
Your link shows a complete set of gauges. Is this the depth sounder you replaced your old one with?

Weird...the landing page on the link changed. Anyway, the link you provided is the one I took out of the boat. I replaced it with the Faria that has depth as well as air and temp sensors. I was able to just unplug the transducer from the old and plug in the new. Also had to run the wires for the temp sensors. The new one came with a transom mount transducer that I obviously didn't need, so I actually have a complete "kit" that I'm not using.

Here's the new one I'm using.

Forgive me for the dumb question and hijack- I have considered installing the same one.

IndySteve,

Is it difficult to run the wires for the temp sensors? Where did you install the temp sensors? Do they seem to be accurate? I would like to put this on my winter upgrade list.

Thanks,

Eddie

No, it has a soft-white back-light but I'm okay with that as I replaced my dash lights with blue LEDs.

Nothing to it. I actually decided to do it after seeing this in another thread:

Depth Finder with air/water temp sensor

Under-swim platform lighting

This little item also ran about $150 through amazon. It's a faria, so a direct replacement for my previous dash mount unit, and plugs directly into the depth finder harness. The only issue was running the temp senders. The air temp, I just ran it forward to the housing for my horn. This is protected from the elements, not in direct sunlight, and gets plenty of air flow. For water, I ran to the stern. Using a tape measure as fish tape got the wires to the right place. The only issue was drilling into my boat.

At the same time, I decided to mount the under-swim platform lights mentioned on a previous post. These are simply white livewell lights (LED) from Bass Pro for $12 ea. Again, I wired these to the ctsy lights at the same time I was re-wiring my swim deck stereo remote (close proximity).

For drilling holes, again masking tape and a marker. Drill a small hole, check for anything in the way, then go to the desired size. I also campher the holes to stress relieve the gelcoat. I found a step-bit (u-bit) to work really well in doing this, and not causing any damage.

I mounted the lights, and all is well...

These holes are technically above the water line, even when at rest, but I haven't had the boat in the water yet, so wish me luck!

Water temp works great...air usually is around 3 degrees high if the sun is out. I also mounted the blue LED flood lights from oznium.com under the swim platform.
