Sounds like I might have to try them, although getting up on plane isn't a problem.

Did you have a porpoising problem?

What year is your 180, and which motor do you have?

Thanks

That's great news about not having a hook - please do keep us posted!

I have a 1999 180 LS with the 5.0L.

I didn't have issues getting on plane. I installed them to reduce porpoising and improve overall handling as well as remain on plane at a lower speed.

I've only had the boat out twice since I installed them and have noticed better ride quality as well as stability. The wife noticed an improvement as well which says a lot. The tabs I purchase were Smart tabs SX.

I have a 2002 205 Sundowner that did this too. I bought it new, never had driven it prior to buying it. (wish I had). First time in the water this boat would porpoise with trim fully down. Also was a dog out of the hole and getting up on plane. Complained to Four Winns and Dealer. The first thing they did was put trim tabs on boat. Didn't help much. Complained some more and eventually they took it back to Factory over the winter and replaced the SX drive with a DP drive. What a difference!!! The dual prop gets the boat out of the water pretty quick and allows for much more trimming. DP outdrive is like having snow tires in the winter. Boat is still a little shaky when on a rough lake but I believe that is due to the hull design and light weight of this craft. On smooth water it handles very nice. When other boats are kicking up wakes,,, hang on!!!
