This seems like it should be an easy fix, but I'm stumped.

2001 Horizon 180 with Volvo 4.3SX. Great day on the water yesterday, but after we pulled it out, there's no power to the hydraulic pump that raises and lowers the outdrive. Fortunately, it's up, so we could trailer it home and store it. My wife "thinks she might have held the switch up a little too long." Which means she wasn't paying attention, and probably held it on after it was fully raised.

I suspect it's electrical as there's no power to the switch (red/white wire.) I found a fuse attached to the pump, but it's intact. The wire from the throttle control bypasses the fuse panel under the dash, and the wiring diagram shows the red/white wire going to the motor. I traced the wire to the bundle going from the helm back to the engine, but before I unwrap the bundle to try to trace the wire, is there a fuse or breaker that protects the power trim pump? Where is it?

Thanks in advance.

Craig

I'm not sure but I think there are relays attached to the pump motor.

There should be a red "button" in your engine compartment, which is actually a circuit breaker. Try to locate it and push it in...should fix it.

The red button did the trick, thanks!

I was surprised that the outdrive was wired to this breaker. What other systems are protected by this breaker, and why doesn't either the Four Winns or Volvo Penta owner's manuals I have describe this?

As for the where, what, how, and why....I have nothing to offer.

Glad it got ya fixed though!

Aguyindallas does it again thank you now I know if this problem should ever arise I just push the red button which when I saw it wondered what it actually did. Thanks again dallas 8) Joe in Miami

If it wasn't the breaker, there's another trick.

Sometimes the motor gets "stuck" and you just have to give it a good tap with something metal like a wrench.

Yup - that's usually my "solution" to the problem also. Found that one out by accident in a moment of irritation at the end of a day on the water, but it wasn't just a tap that I gave it....

My 2008 H210 had a similar problem ... we had Hurricane Irene come through and I chose to take the cover off in case the winds got too high and rip it. That allowed an ungodly amount of shredded leaves to fill the boat. I washed her down and cleaned the leaves out, put her in the water Saturday and the trim would not go down. The engine would start, but the trim would not go down. I limped her over to my dock where I could look her over. NOW THE ENGINE WON'T START. Checked all of the fuses and CBs and all look good. Checked the emergency switch out, but was not able to check the neutral. Also, the relays for the up and down for the trim are clicking, but nothing past that.

I did not see the "Big Red CB" ... where should I look?
Where is the trim hydraulic pump?

Thanks

On my h200 with a 5.0 Volvo, it was mounted to a bracket, up high on the left side of the engine, towards the front. It's just a red, unmarked "button".

Thanks ... do you know where the Hyd Pump for the Trim is?

If it's a Volvo, it's mounted on the outside of the boat. It's mounted to the gimbal plate on the starboard side.

No wonder I couldn't find it ... on past Mercruiser boats I have had it was inside the engine compartment mounted on a shelf on the transom wall.

I wish I had pictures, but there was a CB mounted on the starboard side behind the right rear removeable seat. It was red, but rather small 30A and did not seem to be popped. Coould that be the same CB?

I went back and looked again for a Red CB, but could not find anything other than the 30A I mentioned. This 30A is labeled Helm Power and has a heavy (~8 gage) red w/purple stripes line coming off of it (it is fed directly from the battery). I jumped around it and it did not make any difference. I am getting power to the helm anyway (horn and lights work). Right now, the motor will not turn over, the trim does not work and the radio does not work.

Still down and out!

Is this the red fuse button you are talking about (see the green arrow on the left side of the picture)? The other markings are from previous posts.

P.S. The second battery cable does not run in front of the engine. I was adding the second battery and debating on how to run it (you can see the perko switch undone on the left). I ended up running it along the stern (longer run, harder to do, but much cleaner).
