Hello I am obviously new to the forum. I have been reading a lot on here about my potential new boat. She is a 2005 h190. Powered by the Volvo Pentax 5.0 gl (could be wrong on letters) has 2 barrel and 220hp I believe. Just turned 300 hrs on drivetrain. One owner traded back to dealer. Dealer did all storage, service, and winterization. Boat is super clean in and out. It has the factory tower, Bimini, and bow fill in cushions also snap in carpet that was rarely if ever used. Bow and cockpit snap covers too. Dealer asking 18995 and not budging at all. Is that still a fair price. Given the maintenance history and overal condition I think it is. Also comes with four winns matching tandom axle trailer. Boat sat on a lift at a local lake so only trailered to dealer in fall and spring otherwise not loaded or used much. As reference I live near st. Louis and looking at all boats this still seems like a good price even at the dealer. I would appreciate any and all opinions!
This is my first boat so just a little cautious on the purchase.
Thanks,

Matt

Welcome to the forum. I have a 2002 H190 and love it. I also have the Volvo Penta(no x), 5.0 carbureted engine. It's got plenty of power and I don't think you'd be unhappy with the engine. To be honest, the price seems a little high, but I haven't priced new boats. For reference, I bought my H190 for $21,500 (if I recall), but this was right after the 911 tragedy and they were practically giving boats away. How's the swim platform? If you have the extended one, you'll be happy 8)

It unfortunately does not have the extended swim platform that will be a later addition with two little ones and someone who likes to wakeboard(me). I asked if I could bring a check for 18k and they said no. It just got traded in so that is hurting me a little. If it was August I know there would be some room. I really want a new 210, but it is 50k I believe. Didn't really pay much attention when it was 3x what I wanted to spend.

Anyone else have advice? Buy or pass? I realize I will get a better deal from an individual, but may waste all summer searching for it.

Don't pay a dime more then 15k for that boat, after tax. At a dealer. For that price you can pick up a 2007-2008 H190

Wow! I have looked all over the U.S. and haven't found a 190 in good shape for 15 with all the options this has. Where are you coming up with that number? I think 18 is about right at a dealer. 02 20 ft maxum and regal are 18 and 21k locally for comparable boats no tower, private individuals selling. Remember 2005 and older are actuall 200 horizon by 2006 plus specs. I definitely don't want to get screwed but 15 is low in this area, especially at a dealer. Maybe I should just wait until fall and get a good deal, but I am ready to boat!

Where do you live? That could be why. Here in Florida those are 14-15k all day long. I'm about to throw down on a mint 70hr 2004 FW Sundowner 205 with every option for 17k at a dealer and they're drooling just for that I could probably get them down to 16. That boat in the northern states is a good 25k.

I'm trying my hardest to sell my beautiful 2000 H180 for 8,500 and that's pushing it. Northern states? 12,500 is the average for my boat.

Look at boat trader... H200's...
Everyone wants 22-24k. Florida? 14,900. That's just how it is here.

Hi Welcome, We have the exact same boat, 2005 190, same engine and trailer. Price maybe a bit hi but this a great boat and don't forget that it's actually the H200 as in 2006 Fourwinns changed their sizing/model numbers.

I'm surprised they won't take the $18k.
Maybe they'll get back to you. I paid exactly what
Misterbulbous paid for my '02.
They're a nice, well built boat. We've considered getting something bigger a few times, but this handles any water we've been in just fine.
But you will need the extended platform. :)
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I will tell them 18 is my max today and I will call about an 04 210h same setup just has the 5.7 Volvo fuel injected motor. I live near st. Louis, MO and yes boats here are more. The only deals I have seen are in Florida and California. I don't want to hassle with moving that far or buying sight unseen. I wanted to be on the water this weekend weather looking great. Will keep looking I don't think that boat is going anywhere. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks again,

Matt

Well no deals. Will not budge off 18995. So they are keeping her. My search is on again thanks for the advice. Hopefully the right one will come along. I Really like the four winns I have been seeing. I think that dealer is absolutely ridiculous for not dealing. It would be sold by now. I couldn't even get them to throw in a couple vests, anchor, and extinguisher for 19k (full price!).

Sorry I have to vent a little.

Hanks boats in Raymond, IL may be the most ridiculous dealer of boats, motorcycles, or anything I have bought. 200 bucks worth of stuff to get me water ready and High retail and still no deal!

I have purchased numerous cars, , 4 wheelers, and motorcycles, I have never had a dealer break a full price deal over $200 in accessories. Actually I have never paid full or advertised price either. That lady is just crazy! I don't know how they have stayed open this long!

See if you can talk with the owner.. bypass the commission hungry sales people.

Thats a tough deal. I would try to stay with fuel injected models if you can. My 2011 H180SS is in the shop right now with carb problems. Good luck, and if you look at another 180, try to get one with an extended swim platform. The standard one is pretty useless and you will pay a small fortune to get one later.

I would contact the sales rep and let him know you have cash, and there are some pretty interesting boats in the classifieds(after you look at them)...the value of the boat is what someone is willing to pay for it. Sales people in boat sales are typically commissioned so they will work with you...if not you may have a complacient dealer, a subsidiary dealer may be able to transer the boat to a different location and sell it to you at a better price. Moreover you may find that the first jewel you find is not always the brightest, and there is no tax or commission privately...no warranties either, so you need to find the balance find a number you are comfortable with and stick to your guns...a private deal can be brought in to a qualified mechanic for an inspection which is almost as good as a warranty. Oh yeah I think Ric has a very nice 180 for sale
