Ok so I have the horizon with the volvo 3.0gl motor. I think it is time for a new prop for more hole shot and maybe less slippage. So first of all I have no idea what the stock prop pitch is. and #2 I hear good things about the 19p props. I was wondering what everyone's experience is. I'm thinking about getting a 4 blade 19p aluminum prop. Since i boat in the delta alot I dont want to but a stainless prop, too many underwater obsticles.

Well, I know for sure I am running a 21" pitch, and I believe that it is a 14-1/4 dia. (I will have to check on that) I have only had 3 runs in the boat, and have been pleased with the hole shot. I did talk to my dealer when I picked up the boat, and he mentioned that he had tried the 19 inch pitch 3 blade. His impression was that it had excellent hole shot, but the engine could rev out to 5500 rpm. That's a bit high for the little 3.0 (recommended 4600-4800 rpm). I don't know if you have done a full throttle run yet with your boat, but I did try one on my last trip out. I could see about 44-45 mph on the speedo right at 4800 rpm. That was with 4 people on board, and a near full load of fuel.

So if you are looking for hole shot to pull skiers or water toys, the 19 may be the answer, but you will probably have to pay attention to the revs. Maybe your dealer will let you try one? I would talk to him about that possibility

Yes, that is the stock aluminium prop that my dealer is delivering on the 180 with the Volvo Penta 3.0.

I have my spare prop at home, and I will check the diameter to make sure when I am home at lunch. I do know for sure that the pitch is 21".

Are you noticing slip when you are coming out of the hole? I haven't noticed that at all (yet). I am anxious to see what happens with this prop once the water warms up enough for tubing (funny how nobody wants to do that when the water is 50 deg F ).

Confirmed, the prop is 14.3" diameter & 21" pitch, as marked on the volvo penta box.

FW uses the 21" diameter 14.3 pitch AL prop on many of it's boats. It's also the stock prop on my 200. One option, although pricey is to drop to a SS 19" diameter prop, either a 3 blade or 4 blade. Your hole shot should increase tremendously.

yea my whole shot is ok but i can rev out with the stock prop on my 07 3.0gl over 5 g's and i know it should be closer to 4200 to 4600 WOT. Should i go bigger or smaller?

Jim_R, did you mean 19 pitch SS prop? Confused, as you and chrisvs said opposites for diameter/pitch.

I would think that if you were going to go to a SS prop, you would drop the pitch down about 2-3 due to the lesser amount of flex in the blades as a result of the SS being stronger than aluminum.

Not saying anyone is wrong, just looking to clear up the confusion for the sake of this thread.

Yes, I reversed them. I did find that FW updated their FastFacts pages with 2007 boat info. There they list stock props for different engine configurations for each boat. For 2007 FW appears to be mixing in a few more props - 14.5x21 and even 13.5x23.

Typically, when moving to a SS prop you want to drop a couple inches of pitch. So you might start with a 14.3 or 14.25 by 19. It'd be best to try to find a prop shop by your waterway that will let you try before you buy. Maybe take a couple out for a day, do a couple runs, swap props, and see which you like best. Don't forget that hole shot and WOT speed will vary depending on whether your tank is topped off, the number of folks and amount of equipment on board, as well as how that weight is distributed.

I am probably gonna get the aluminum prop because the delta tears props up fast. So right now my WOT goes way up past the recomended range and I would like something that digs a little harder. I am figuring since I am staying with the aluminum prop that I am going to stay with the same pitch. I am going to step up to a 4 blade, so what size do you guys think I should get?

If you have too many rpms with the 3 blade aluminum, then switch to a 4 blade of the same diameter and same pitch. The added blade will bring the rpms down some on top end. One thing about props, you want to plan on testing many many props to find the 'sweet' prop for your boat.
