Would a 280hp engine be strong enough to push around a 2005 234 Funship? For example, often I have 7 or 8 adults on board and I am hoping this engine isn't too wimpy for this weight? Is there anyone who has this boat already and is happy with it's performance? Thanks.

I have a 194 Funship with 270 hp 5.0GXI Duoprop, I do not consider mine overpowered with 7-8 people on board. I would think you would want more power with a 234.

I just ordered a 2008 224 with a Volvo 5.7 GI/Duoprop. I would definately go with a little bit bigger engine. I was on a 224 with a smaller engine a single prop it took some time to plane and did not perform like the bigger engine.
I am wondering if I should of went with the mercruiser 350 mag DTS with smart tow. oh well!

I've got a similar question, but as it relates to a 2006 FS224 with a 5.0L 270HP duoprop. I will have 6-8 people on the boat and/or being towed on a tube, but only 2-4 of the people will be adults. Will this be enough juice?

Different boat, but I have a 225 Sundowner with the 280hp 5.7Gi. With a full 50gal of fuel, 7gal of water, and three adults on board I still hit 50mph, and was able to pull a skier no problem.

I replied to a similar thread, but I'll just retype here - I've got a '99 234 FS, 280hp, 5.7Gsi SX (Single Prop). I think the '05s are significantly heavier (+600-800lbs?). For my purposes I have enough power - had 10 (6 kids ages 10-14 and 4 adults) in the keys last week and we had plenty of power. However, I think I would want more power if the boat were larger. I've been on the lake a few times with 10+ adults and it's a totally different experience. I would think you'd want 300hp/DP minimum...but I don't have first hand experience with that.

Hope that helps some.

Everybody is different on what they consider adequate - best thing would be to see if you could get a test ride & you could make the call. My guess is that it would be ok.
