Folks,

Just purchased a Funship 274 - winterized at a Four Winns dealership for previous owner. They have a big wait list to get it ready... so I figured I could open it up this year and always have them winterize it for me.

What is your checklist for opening up your boat?

Thanks!
Eric

Check all fluid levels
Tighten belts
Tighten all hose clamps fuel and cooling
Make sure all drain plugs are installed properly
Charge batteries, replace any that don't come up to charge.
Run engine on water hose, check for cooling and fuel leaks
Make sure thermostat functions properly and engine runs at normal temp on the water hose (160-175 max)
Check for proper oil pressure and charging volts on dash gauges
Check to see if a normal amount of water is exhausted below the transom mount, if not replace raw water impeller
Replace spark plugs and dist cap/rotor if needed
Verify that throttle and shift system works properly before putting boat in the water
Make sure bilge pump(s) work and auto switch works

What engine/outdrive do you have and where do you boat?

In addition to what Lou listed:
Flush your fresh water system
Replace zincs
Check the oil level (and color) on the outdrive (paint with anti-fouling paint (if required))
Run the Coast Guard Courtesy Checklist for required items
Wash, wax, wash, bottom paint (if required)

I have the 5.7 GXI. I am assuming that antifreeze needs to be drained - where do I drain from? Thanks for all your help.

Do you have a closed cooling system (heat exchanger for the engine) or an open system? Was the engine filled with antifreeze for winterization? If so, if they used regular car antifreeze (toxic) you should drain it from the engine drains and the manifold drains, don't let it run out on the driveway when running the boat on land or even worse in the water. The non toxic antifreeze you can just start it up, that stuff is not dangerous.
