I am looking at buying a 224 but recently looked at a 204 on the fourwinns website. It looks to me that the 204 and 224 have the same amount of cockpit and bow space for passengers. The 224 looks to gain its length in the head area and the extended swim platform. Does anyone know if that is true?

You appear to be correct. The 224 also may have a bit more freeboard. We own a 2003 214 which besides the dash is essentially the same as the current 224. Let me know if you have any further questions.
