Post subject:  Wakeboarding from a 244 Funship?

Looking at a used/like new 244 funship as my first boat. Think the wife will love it as it's big enough to invite some friends along. I have two boys 13 and 15, thinking they may enjoy a wakeboard boat to wakeboard and wakesurf from. Is there a better Four Winns Model to cater to wakeboarding/surfing? If anyone would be so kind as to send a few words on their experience with wakeboarding, and possibly wake surfing from this larger bowrider, I would greatly appreciate it? Thanks in advance to anyone who might respond, Bill.

The Funship will do the job - we ski and wakeboard behind our Funship 214 with the 5.7 and also use it as a dive platform and general cruiser.

What else do you plan to do on the boat? You might also look at the Horizon line.

I like my H180 - we have a 15 and a 17 year old - and we've tubed behind it without any problems, and the 3.0 can do it - but I would probably upgrade to a larger engine and a bigger boat so everyone could bring a friend along.

Thank you both. I have a decision to make soon. Worst case scenario,...I end up with my first boat, regardless which way I go. And that's not bad seeing as how I'm on the 20th year of my 5 year boat plan. I've finally come to the conclusion that no one has been stopping me from purchasing a boat except me. I've heard back on another thread as well from a 244 funship owner, sounds like wakeboarding just fine as you have both stated. He suggests adjusting the trim to produce a bigger wake. I'll also contact and have a chat with a dealer before purchasing. Thanks, again for sharing the first hand/owner experience!

Don't wakesurf behind the funship unless you plan on going to your kid's funeral.

Where are you located and what kind of water will you be boating on? The Horizon will handle rough water better - The Funship tends to slap into big chop instead of cutting through it. That has never stopped me from being out on the Pacific, or on a windy choppy lake in my FS however.

+1 on NOT wakesurfing behind any boat with a visible from the stern propeller. Only an inboard!!!

As for the wakeboarding, you should be fine if they are beginners who are learning. If they ever reach the point of becoming pretty good riders there will be a wakeboat in your future if they are wanting to start doing big time tricks/jumps.
