Post subject:  Smart Tabs

I know the topic has been reviewed often here, but I haven't seen anyone with an F that uses them. So, I'm wondering if anyone has put Smart Tabs on their Funship? I have an F224, and am fairly pleased with the ride and performance, but would like to be able to stay on plane with less speed. Would the Smart Tabs help? The cost is reasonable. I don't want to add hydraulic tabs due to the cost. It's worth $200 to me, but not $1k. Will I get $200 worth of performance increase?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I have not, but am intrigued with the concept and will be looking forward to any responses you get....

Also, how does your Touareg do with towing your 224?

The Touareg is a great tow vehicle, actually. I also tow a covered snowmobile trailer. Last weekend on a trip, I averaged around 70 mph (limit 65 to 70) and got 12 mpg, and the car did really well. No gear hunting or issues at all. I have only towed the boat one time since I had it, and it was great! I'm still adjusting to towing something so large, but it should be fine. The limit of the VW is 7700 pounds, which is shocking to me!

Thanks for the link to ebay. After shipping and buying the switch you need, it's still going to be close to $1k. I'm sure it's worth it for a larger boat, but too rich for me. I've got other "mods" in sight! :)

I have an F204. I called FW last year and asked about tabs, and they suggested NOT installing them. The FW support person said the F series is basically a tri-hull shape, almost like a triple pontoon and tabs would not be at all useful.

I have experimented with different props to try and get on plane at lower speeds (WOT is not important to me, my kids are still 7 and under). I've had some success with a new prop but I can't say it was a dramatic difference.

I've thought about a four blade prop instead. I have the same issue... I'd like to be on plane at a lower speed.
