I am attempting to pull the fault codes off of my '96 Sundowner 205 as something is going wrong sending the motor into Engine Protection Mode. The boat has the 5.0Fi motor (Ford 302 Block).

I found some guys online talking about how to pull codes using the LED light and paper clip but when I went to look for the reader adapter, I could not find it. The only one I could find was listed as 'EEC Test' on the port cover and looked like this:

Is there another plug that I'm missing here? If yes, the location of it would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to pull the codes to diagnose the issue without having to visit the local shop. The guys at the local shop have a 2 week backlog and said they will charge $180 just to pull the codes. Must be nice to be that busy.....

That is the plug. If you can borrow an OBD 1 code reader with the Ford adapter, you'll be able to extract and erase any codes.

Did you take temp readings (mentioned in your other post) with the IR temp gun? Even tho we have identical boats, I do not have the EPM thingy, so I couldn't even begin top tell ya what to do with that. But, I would start with the temps, if they are normal, then look at the sensors/sending units, then wiring, then the EPM codes. I always use the simple stuff to hard stuff method of tracing problems.

Niagra - We have been getting nailed with nasty thunderstorms here this week so I haven't been able to get onto the water. Plan is to get out on Saturday.

Wanted to get my hands on a scanner or a way to scan codes if I can get it to go into Engine Protection Mode on the water.
