Post subject:  Dash problems

I have the automotive style VDO dash and half the gauges don't work. The one that concerns me the most is the temp gauge. It is reading high. I checked the temperature of several spots of the engine, including hoses and thermostat housing with an infrared thermometer and everything was reading around 160.

I was able to run around 30mph with the temp high but staying out of the red. Yesterday when we went out, 5 minutes at 25mph and it was in the red and the alarm went off.

I've done some reading and I know that FW made a replacement dash, but they don't make that part anymore. I've found someone who will make one for me but will take several weeks to fabricate so I have to do it when the season is over.

My question is, does anyone have any ideas for a temporary setup so I can still use the boat for the last few weeks of the season? My mechanic tried playing with it by unplugging the sender and hooking up a temporary gauge but he said the alarm went off in the dash, probably because it wasn't getting a reading. Any ideas?

Thanks.

The problem could be the sending unit. Wouldn't cost much to change that out.
