I realize that paint is a problem in the fuel delivery system, I replaced two pump assemblies last year because of it. I'd like to know what is causing the paint to peel (i.e. ethanol, fuel additives, normal marine environment, etc). In order to apply a corrective action to a design or manufacturing defect, root cause should be established first.

Agreed. But all the mechanics and VP reps I have talked with say it is the ethanol as the root cause. You could also say it is poor design/engineering to have that type coating on the pumps from the get go.

Poor design/engineering happens, it would be nice if companies would stand behind their products when it does. Have any of your VP sources said that the paint has been changed to resist ethanol? I'd hate to have to keep buying these expensive fuel pump assemblies every five years.

Yes, they have changed the paint. But I do not know how many old models are still out there on shelves yet to be sold.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that my new pumps have the good paint.
