So if all boats are overpriced where did you get your starting price from? I've always heard 10% off, but you went in at closer to 30%

I've heard 10% as well. I've also heard 15%. I think these numbers mean nothing. I just look at how many boats are out there for sale. There are too many of the same boats, and many within relatively close proximity of each other...in other words a glut, which should drive, and seemingly is driving, prices way down. It could be said that dealers/brokers/sellers are delusional, but they're readily accepting what I consider to be low-ball offers, so perhaps they're all too aware but hoping to snag a sucker or two in the process, hence the high list prices.

i hear you but with a few exceptions all the 298s on my list of similar vintage are priced about the same. So what would you offer on a 2003 that's listed at 79,900, 65k?

This is just me, but I'd offer $57K and negotiate up from there. They want to sell you the boat. They (probably) won't sell it for $57K, but believe me, they want that boat sold. Also bear in mind, they're going to spend money winterizing and storing that thing in a couple of months, so it's in their best interest to sell it before the season ends.

I also wouldn't go any higher than $60K in the negotiations. $60,000.01 would be my cue to walk. My guess is by late September they'd be thankful for a $60K offer, so why not sell it for $60K now and be done with it?

So I'm scheduled to see the following 2003 298 tommorow.
2003 298

This one is even further out of line offered at $94,900. It's been on the market since winter 06 and the owner is out of boating. I'd like to offer 65k, but it seems way too far below asking.

Well, $95K is definitely out of line for that boat, so I wouldn't feel bad starting in the low 60s.

So I saw the 2003 298 Vista today and it was immaculate. Looked like a new boat. 98hrs on the engines and without a sea trial everything seemed to be in great working order. Another benefit is he is in Burham Harbor, which is the "place to be" in the Chicago system. The broker mentioned we should be able to swap places and he'll just let my slip expire. That would be a great bonus. I mentioned again that the boat is listed 15k too high and again she basically ignored the comment. I still want to see the 2003 in Muskegon before any offers are made. But here are a few pics...

NADA average retail, $111K, Something ain't right or it's just a buy of a lifetime. It's listed in Orlando, I'll have to call the dealer over there and see if they have the scoop.

I looked for that boat on all the usual sites and it doesn't appear to exist anywhere else.

Also I have an offer in at $66,000 for the Chicago boat I saw. Awaiting a reply.
