I have a 2001 298 Vista and recently bumped the dock piling and lost my starboard side exhaust vent cover. I ordered a new cover and want to know the easiest way to replace it. From what I have seen you must remove both hatches so you can access the engine bay and then get inside the bay to secure the nuts on the cover. If anyone has an easier way let me know. I thought of just sealing the cover with 5200 caulk and not put the nuts on the studs. Is this a wise idea? Any help is appreciated because I really don't want to get inside the engine compartment unless absolutely necessay. Thans

Not sure of the layout on the 298, but on my 328 there are storge lockers on both side. You could probably remove it and gain access to both nuts. I would of had to replace one on my 248 but we got rid of it just as the part arrived and the new owner is looking after putting it on.

Checked the storage locker but it is too far forward and the vent cover is back closer to the stern of the boat.

Maybe this might help ??

Quote:

Next task is figuring out how the heck to get into the right spot to replace it. I am wondering if taking out my transom shower box will yield enough room, or access to it. Otherwise, its going to take a 2 year old to get up in the hole to reach the mounting boats.

Not too bad. I had to remove the backrest on the starboard side as well.as the backrest for the rear lounge to get access to the bolts.
