Without a windlass a plow anchor can be pretty heavy. My 268 does not have a windlass and does have a Fluke anchor like in this link:

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... ecordNum=1

These are rated at a certain weight, but the actual anchor does not actually weigh that much. If you want to go even lighter you might try a Fortress anchor. These are a fluke-style anchor but are made from aluminum.

The plow anchors work well with windlasses because they always stow right side up in the bow roller. The fluke anchors don't always stow without some help, but they are much lighter. The flukes also hold well in most conditions.

Hope this helps.

Had my 248 out last weekend and decided to drop the plow type anchor in a small cove. What a heavy sob!! Non windlass. Now thinking about replacing it with a lighter Slip ring type anchor. Anybody do this conversion? Any issues? It takes everything I have to pull the current plow type out of the water and return to its set position.

What plow anchor do you have? I would be interested in buying it (for the right price) if you do buy another style

Chris I have a spare plow anchor that came with my boat. I believe I can also put my hands on a Fortresss mt brother-in-law has although I'm not sure of the size. It might be too large for your boat.

I have a danforth fluke type now, holds great, but it is a fight getting it put away. I always have to position it with one hand and operate the windless with the other (to store). Keep looking at the delta plows. Not sure if they hold as good or not....

Late to this conversation but why don't you just use a short line from the anchor to the cleat? I use the chain stop plus tie it so it stays taught and doesn't bounce at all. Even on the trailer on the road it stays tight.

Chris268 ... The plow type anchor on my 248 looks like the Lewmar plow types you see at West marine. I can take a pic and post it in a week or so when I take my 248 out. It is not chrome.
Let me know if you are still interested.
