Post subject:  How to determine where the water is coming from?

I have a 2006 278Vista, I have a nearly constant accumulation of water in the front bilge, under the floor cover in the galley. It creates a 'moisture' in the cabin - a real problem. I am trying to think where water can enter (rain). Inside my most forward V-compartment, the carpet that lines it seams wet, and I am thinking the rain may be running down my top deck into my anchor chain locker. There seems to be NO lip that prevents rain or over-spray from entering the anchor locker. I removed all my rode and chain, the drain holes are not blocked, but when the rode piles up in there, maybe that is blocking? I removed all my rode and chain, put water in the locker, the drain holes are an inch above the bottom of the locker, it seemed to hold the water.

Has anyone had a problem with rain water intrusion? Did you find out where is was coming from? I know it is rain, I keep it in salt water, the water in the bilge is freshwater.

This seems to be a common problem. You can even find some threads hear on a search. I had a similar issue when I acquired my 258 last year. The dealer fixed the anchor locker before my purchase but I still had water coming in. For me it turned out that the rode in the locker was blocking the drain. I don't know what they fixed because it was already fixed before I bought it but I can see the sealant or epoxy they used smeared all over in the bottom. If I remember off the top of my head the drain was a little above the bottom just like you said.

I noticed mine doing the same thing last summer. Water in the forward compartment under the v-berth. I only notice it after washing or a heavy rain.
I think the only way to fix is to reseal the bulkhead in the anchor locker. I'm goint to try this spring.

Anchor locker. Seal the seams from inside the locker.

Thanks everyone for your input, I did pop the mirror off the wall exposing the 'pie hole' to look into the anchor locker from inside as good as I can. I will try the sealant around the seams and even the entire bottom.

It is anchor locker for sure, I had the same issue, sealed it properly with fiberglass kit, now it is bone dry!
It seems that it is really a common issue
