I haven't really used the saltwater pickup for the toilet lately (I have in the past, but I thought that the seawater might be more likely to cause odor buildup), so usually I just fill up with some fresh water from the shower head before using. Last week the seal that attached the hose from the pump to the back of the toilet broke (I believe this is the hose that brings the salt water into the toilet) and I replaced it today. Even though I usually use the fresh water I wanted to make sure there were no issues with the seal, so I opened up the intake valve, put the selector on the pump to the wet position, however no salt water would come in. Any ideas on what to look for to fix this issue?

Thanks

You probably need to replace th seals on the manual pump. I had a similar issue with my 02 268. Did a rebuild of the pump and was good to go.

Thanks, I was thinking maybe just replace the pump unit, as that seems to be only slightly more than the rebuild kits, but wanted to make sure that there weren't any other possible problems people might be aware of that are common that involve getting water into the boat through the seacock.

If you open up a raw water intake from the hull that's been closed and dry, most likely it's not going to pick up from the sea at first. Open the valve before you go for a cruise and go up on plane for a minute, it forces water up the system and primes it. Should have no issues again until you take the boat out of the water or drain the system.

Same goes for A/C systems. If you leave the shutoff valve on the hull open and pull out of the water, it's not going to self prime again until you cruise around for a second with the valve open.

Totally normal.

Ok thanks, so before my next trip I'll open the seacock before I head out and see how that works .. if that doesn't I'll have to replace the pump I guess.
