We currently have a 2007 Vista 258 with a 320 hp OSX drive and F4 props. We were out with our dealer for a cruise yesterday and he thinks that we should have a better hole shot and is considering changing to an F3 prop set. We have the factory installed ski tower and we seem to have a small hitch in acceleration when we are loaded down. We sit around 3000 rpm with the bow up until the boat comes over the top. Tabs help but not as much as we were hoping. He is thinking that moving to a F3 would help get us going faster when we are running heavy. With a light load we are at 4500 rpm WOT so if we go to a F3 we still should be within engine specs.

I realize that a Vista is not a ski boat but with the extra weight of the tower the F3 move is our dealers thought in improving hole shot.

I would really appreciate any thoughts.

I find the F3 perfect on my 248 but then again I think my boat is on a diet (usually) and I have the 5.0 GI - a bit less power then you.

I have a 2000 248, w/ 5.7L GSI 280 HP, with F3 props. Hole shot IMHO is still weak. But we didn't buy this boat to ski behind either. I also boat at 3600 ft elev. at lake powell, and 6500 ft at home lakes, this of course affects performance, but exactly how much and how different our boats weight,???????

I want to move to a F2 set to improve my hole shot, but not for the price volvo wants for there props. If your dealer is going to swap for no charge, then by all means give it a try. It could only help.

Thank you for your responses.

Although we pulled the boat out of the water today, our dealer called Friday to say FW was sending a set of F3s that we should have on Tuesday. We will give them a water test this week :D and see what happens before the boat is winterized .

Although Saturday was a bit cold and windy we got the 258 back in the water with a new shiny set of F3s. What a difference. We dropped between 4 and 7 seconds off of our planing time. This was based on tab location and load placement. Our top rpm is just a touch under 5000 with a light load at WOT. Seems like we only dropped 1-2 mph on our top end.

We look forward to next season with our new get up and go. Now its time to winterize and put the Vista away for the winter.

We were out on the lake last weekend and I played around a little more with tab settings durring hole shot. I even skied behind the boat for the 1st time. I was very happy with deep water start. Performed as well as our 245 sundowner with 7.4L king cobra (single prop), for hole shot that is.
I noticed that a WOT that we are at 4900-4950 RPM.

With a engine tune-up next year, I think I will be happy with the F3 props. No need for me to spend BIG money on another set.
