Didn't you replace one on your boat?
Where did you get it from?

My mechanic has one. I'm checking right now to see if he still has it. I will let you know.

LouC, I have not replaced it yet.

My mechanic just found one for me out in Saybrook. It is probably a saltwater unit but the guy (Jay's Marine) has a good rep.

I think the whole outdrive will cost me around $1200.

My thought now is that I am going to see if I can get my old outdrive rebuilt. If I can do it fairly cheap I can either swap it back onto my boat and get rid of the replacement or keep the replacement on and get rid of the original. I have a buddy that can weld aluminum if needed.

I'm guessing they sell rebuild kits? Ric?

My outdrive is in very good condition on the outside so I am hoping it can be fixed and will be worth the $ and time.

It depends on your plans for the boat...if you're keeping it a long time
then having a spare drive makes sense. I'd take a look at the salt water one; mines been moored in salt nearly 15 seasons worth and has only needed minor repairs (seals, trim lines, still has original upper and lower gears). Id keep your old one and when you have the money get it rebuilt over the winter for a spare. Many parts are still available and what you can't get OE you can get from Sierra....

That's fairly local to me, South Shore Suffolk County. Salt water also.
If you are anywhere near Candlewood Lake Ct, there are some boat places up there, maybe someone might have a nice fresh water one. Keep in mind that with the 5.8 engine you need the V-6/V-8 large gearcase (lower) version, not the one for the 2 4 cyl engines that used the smaller gearcase. The 5.8 probably used the same gear ratio as the 5.7 which was 1.41:1.
