If you have a Volvo Penta version of a GM engine, Volvo Bulletin P-18-3-6 applies. Here is a link to a website page displaying the bulletin and Volvo part numbers for oil.
http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/VP_Se ... ngines.pdfThe text of the bulletin is below. There may be a couple areas that text recognition didn't work perfectly, but most of the information is there. The bulletin recommends a few different multi-grade synthetic oils. I've been told that the Volvo oil is Mobil 1. Volvo is recommending oil that meets the following specification:
Viscosity: SAE 10W-40
Grade: API SJ, ACEA A3/B3
Another website,
www.iboats.com, provides the ability to look up parts and part numbers for various engine and outdrives. in the Volvo section of the site the "Service parts" section identifies the Volvo part numbers for oil, filters, spark plugs, etc. Volvo's part number is 21681794 for a quart of 10W40.
