In the "pictures" section here there is a great pic of a VDO replacement guage set. Does anyone know who makes it and how to get one? Is it the $800 Four Winns replacement I've read of here?

i just replaced my vdo with the guages for a little over $600 installed. i need to have my mechanic re-adjust the calibration for the rpms for slow speeds and i lost my temp reading but it works great. now i can rely on the readings and no false alarms.

Good to hear about your success. Where did you get the replacement, any pics? Speaking of alarms, I bealive the VDO system does not have an audible alarm. I am adding one and will post the results. I spend most on my time running the boat standing up so it would be nice to know if the temp rises or oil pressure drops without checking the gauges every few moments.

my vdo (which was actually a replacement of the original 2 years ago) had alarms that would go off when the guages malfuntioned. the new non-vdo guages i just had installed dont have alarms but dont have a temp reading. i will get a couple shots of the new non-vdo guages and throw them up on this thread in a day or so.

edit: i lost the water temp reading from the trasducer to avoid any confusion. everyone liked to know that before swimming

I have the VDO in my 99 Vista 258. " What I would give" to find that stupid beeping alarm

Every time the gauges wig out, the beeper is so loud and annoying. I understand if there was a legit problem, but the new replacement dash doesnt have an alarm so obviously it was omitted for a good reason!

I would put a mute switch between the sensors and the buzzer. At least it would alert me to look at the gauges when something might be amiss. I certainly can't see them when standing.

FWIW, if I do anything to that VDO dash, its going to be with a hammer and alot of built-up anger :D

In the meanwhile, Ive heard fellow Four Winns owners reported paying $600 for the replacement dash? Is that the going rate?
Cant I find a used one on ebay? :)

Why not make one? You could have exactly the gauges you want. I'm trying to find a source of wood grain dash material, an aluminum backing would be ideal. There must be source custom car buffs use.

Is there a simple way to remove the VDO?

I replaced the whole cluster. Simple plug and play. My battery gauge would work intermitly and you never new if it was a problem or the gauge. Now I don't have to worry.

Is there an easy way to remove the cluster? Does the whole cowl come off?

Its been a couple of years but if there are no screws in the cluster you just sort of pry and work it out. Some just break it out but mine came out undamaged.
