 Post subject: Which Jack Works Best

And dont say Jack Daniels, I am addicted to that stuff, well almost. :lol:

OK new to boating, got the H200, complete with spare. Now with the FW trailer that has the side steps it makes it a bit awkward to get a jack under the axle (single axle 6 lug wheels) Wife dont really want me to filling the back of the truck with a trolley jack but I think thats the answer. Saw a 2 1/2 tons cap in sears for $30 is there a smaller option. dont want to be stuck on the side of the road with a flat. read so many horror stories, people leaving there boat to get help they return, No Boat.

After losing a front tire on the truck on the way to Table Rock this past June and discovering what a PITA the factory truck jack is, I bought one of these. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007X ... ss_product

It doesn't have any "extra" capacity, but it fits under the back seat of my truck, is surprisingly light weight, won't rust, and seems to be built reasonably well. It's even kinda cute.

Just as important as your jack, is having something to use as chocks and a couple of 2x4's or 4x4's in case you need to raise the jack higher, handle soft ground, etc.

A floot jack was the best investment Ive made.

This is the one I bought, but I think it was only 30 or 40. Ive used it ton around the house and once on the highway.. :( Way better than car jack

Cab, this doesn't help with your situation, but I thought I would relay along for those with tandom trailers. A buddy had a blowout on his H260, and couldn't get his auto jack to work. A local farmer stopped to help. The farmer pulled a couple of 2X4s and a 4X4 out of the back of his truck. He put a 2X4 and a 4X4 in series in front of the good tire on the side with the blowout, and had my buddy pull forward. The good tire rolled up the 2X4 and they stopped it on top of the 4X4. They then blocked the remaining trailer wheels. With the good tire sitting on the 4X4, they had plenty of clearance to take the flat off and put the spare on. If you're in a pinch and have some lumber available, something to keep in mind. I still think it's best to carry the right jack for the job, but sometimes improvision is required.

Mike, I'm a sucker for safety and finding an easier way (than using the truck jack), just ordered one from Amazon for $41.99 including shipping. It'll be going in the truck next week. Just glad I didn't need it on my long drive home from Utah. Thanks much for the info and link. For once I bought something while the "horses are still in the barn" .

Good deal, let us know what you think when it arrives. It just barely fit under my seat, and as I said it's not going to lift any concrete trucks, but it seems to be enough to lift one corner, or one side of one axle on the trailer, etc. I like the idea of having a floor type jack available that doesn't have to be left in the truck bed or take up floor space inside. Still - my trailer doesn't leave storage without a pair of heavy rubber chocks, a pair of 2x4x2', and a 4x4x2'. Belt & suspenders. :wink:

Right - all I want to be able to do is get one wheel high enough to change a flat. Even that could push this little jack to the edge of its capacity but I'm betting it'll work. I'd be more concerned if I had a single axle trailer where half the boat's weight would have to be lifted. Of course I still have the truck jack as a backup, which I've already tested under the boat. It's a PITA, but it'll work if it has to.

That should be plenty of jack.. Thats 3000 pound capacity on a 6000 pound TOTAL boat/trailer. You cant forget about the weight that is supported by the tongue of the trailer on the truck.. and like Mike said, the other three tires. That will replace your car jack as well around the house.. those things are terrible.

Well I went with one I saw in Sears it was bout 2 1/2 ton capacity. I just remember driving a 16 ton trucks in my earlier years and although you only put the jack under one side of the axle I always carried an 8 ton jack. Better safe than in hospital.
