So after not having a spare tire, I decided it was time to get one, the only problem is I did not want to mount it to the trailer frame and, all the mount I looked at would not mount to the trailer tounge and were 4-5 lug patterns not 6 on 5.5 like mine, so I made my own. The mount turned out awesome,
Mike

I bought one from Northern-Tool for 19.00. It fits my 6 on 5.5.

Does it fit on the frame or the tonge?

Ours is mounted back a bit off the tongue, makes it easy to swing the tongue when we close the garage.

Nice work. I have mine on the tongue as well with the same bolt pattern. I can't remember where I bought the mount though.

Thanks

Delo,

I made mine out of two inch tube steel and quarter inch plate, the mounts are folded galvey steel with 4 1/2 inch bolts with nyloc nuts. Fits great and swings out of the way real easy, damn I'm good.

Kind of reviving an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one when this one talked about the same thing I just went thru.

So about 5 yrs ago, when I bought our boat, I mangled the spare tire mount as I backed over the hump in our driveway (mounted on the side frame rail). So for the last 5 yrs we've had our spare mounted on the trailer tongue...
Image

I've wanted to move it forever...so I finally decided to make a mount for the spare to go in between the frame rails. The attached pictures are of how it turned out.

These are the pieces after I cut them. (I did make some minor mods to theses during the build)

Initial welds...

Mounted in place...

With the spare & then the final view!

The paint I used was Rustoleum #7723 Navy (from Home Depot). My trailer paint is faded, but it was a pretty spot-on match!

Just thought I'd share some mods I made to the trailer!
