Question about Four Winns trailers Surge brakes. We have a trailer for a 238 Vista and we are curious how full the brake reservoir shoulr be with fluid and is it 30 SAE regular motor oil that goes in it? Right now the reservoir is empty at the present time. Thanks. (Also when we take off it kind of makes the truck lunge forward a little or like a bump before it takes off is that normal?)

Do NOT put motor oil in it. It should have DOT 3 brake fluid, easily obtainable (and cheap) almost anywhere. However, you should ask why it's empty. Pretty much the only way for it to get out is to leak. At this point, at a minimum you need to fill it and then bleed the system to get all the air out. In addition to that, depending on which coupler you have it may need to be primed; some couplers have very specific instructions to do that, and you can really mess it up if you don't follow them.

A small amount of bump is normal when taking off from a stop with a properly functioning surge system, but I imagine yours is quite abrupt since it's empty, and that's not normal.

Just a tip, we can help more if you provide more info such as the year of your boat/trailer, any recent work done, etc., etc.

Thanks for you help. Just new to this forum and learning what I should put in my posts. It is a 2000 Trailer. Thanks for the help. We notice a spot under the actuator and figured we had a problem. Thanks again.

No problem at all. Do you know what model actuator you have?

I know virtually nothing about that coupler, but this might be just what you need: http://www.titan-intl.com/content/media/model6ii.pdf
