Can someone direct me to a good kneeboard. My whole extended family skis. I would like a new toy to play with. This kneeboard would have to be for beginners that would attempt tricks quickly. I have looked at some with the assist hooks. I'm not set on one of those though. Retractable fins sounds like a good idea too. Thanks for the information!

I just purchased the Gladiator "Viper" package from Overtons. For $150 you get the board, a carrying case, and a rope. It appears as though this is identical to one of the O'Brien boards, but about $20 less. Else you can just get the board for $130. If you sign up for Overton's email list, they send 10% off, or free shipping coupons about every other week.
My 8 year old picked it right up, and enjoys it almost as much as skiing. The "hook" is a great feature, especially for beginners. My 5 yr old also has been towed around slowly on it slowly...we hold the other end of rope (rather than attach it to boat).
I find that it is nice to have a kneeboard. Rather than going through the pain of teaching friends etc to ski for the first time, they can get right up and go on a kneeboard, and be able to participate in some form of "water sports".
I'm currently on vacation at the lake for 2 weeks, and may attempt to put my (soon to be 40 yr old) knees and back to the test. It looks like fun.

Somethings to consider when buying a kneeboard for beginers
1)The hook is a good idea BUT is also something else protruding that may cause injury
2)Fins will help the board track better thus help with learning but should be retractable
3)If $$$$ isnt a problem buy 2 boards have 2 ski ropes EXACTLY the same length so that the experienced kneeboarder can instruct whilst underway
4) Try to get boards that are filled with some sort of foam and ones that are wider as they are more stable
5)Name brands tend to be better as a general rule

The retractable hook seems to work out well for us and our board does not have fins and it has not been an issue for beginners.

Teach him to wakeboard instead. So, when he's a little older, all the skills will be solid and all the chicks dig it.

uh... I mean I Wakeboard, and Kneeboard (and water ski). I just ordered a kneeboard mount for my tower. Should get it installed this weekend. Now, I'll be able to have 2 wakeboards on one rack, and one kneeboard on the other without loosing any storage or seating!
