Hi,

I am about to buy a new H180 with a Volvo 3L. I have three boys at 180 pounds and my concern is that the boat is powerful enough to pull them water skiing. If you have knowledge or experience with this boat please advise ASAP.

Thanks,
Brian

In a word YES!!!
I intend to order this week a H180 with 3.0 Merc. I had similar concerns as you have, but my neighbor down the river was good enough to give me a test drive and ski behind his H180 3.0 merc. With driver and 2 passengers sitting in the rear seats pulled me ( 200 pounds) on a slalom ski no problems. Now I will add that it wasnt rip your arms out of their sockets type acceleration but certainly quite adequate. Just remember it is only a 135 hp but certainly will do the job. By the way it was fitted with a ss 3 blade 17inch pitch prop. Personally I will be opting for a 18inch pitch prop as it was hitting 5000 rpm at wot.
Something also to take into consideration with the test I did, when deep starting I tend to dig in quite a bit.
Hope this helps

IMHO the 3.0 is good for pulling a medium skier on single ski, or larger on 2. I was not sure so opted for the 190hp as the fuel consumption is almost the same as the 130 and I could be certain of pulling up 2 skiers... I never have to work the engine hard, plus have another 10kph (6mph) top end speed..

Works fantastic! Can pull me up on 1 ski (200 lbs) no issues! And can pull 3 tubes with adults on them again no issues.

I just pulled 2 adults on ski's with 7 peeps in the boat... but that was with 320 hp. So, you should go ahead and get the 350 mag, or bigger. And you might as well get a H200 or H210. Since you've gone that far, go ahead and get the SS package as well. This way you won't be asking if you can pull a skier, but instead asking the skier if he feels lucky!

OK, related to your post. Consider maint, and resale value as well. I would always opt for the higher hp option, this way there is never the question. You can re-prop easy enough, but when you only have so many ponies pushing, you get fewer options to improve.

Mine (3.0 volvo) pulls my bro up no prob on skis and he is about 235lbs. It also pulls me up no prob on one ski. I usually have 4 adults and 2 kids on the boat. I'm actually very impressed with this engine. No complaints
