Post subject:  Wakeboarding

Hey guys i have been wake boarding a bunch of times but out of the people i usually go with i'm the only one that can do it so i have no one to give me advice. so my question is what is a good speed to ride at? i think i've been between 22-25 mph is that too fast?

I'd say start about 15-18 for beginners, then raise it as the comfort level increases. I cannot do good jumps below 20, so I'musing 20-22 at present, but still a beginner. 15-18 is great for turns, and just getting accustomed to handling/control without getting hurt. I've been teaching some friends for about the last summer now with good results.

Thanks for the advice. I'm into jumping too i've been trying to land a 180 for a long time and thought the speed i was going might be a little too fast making it hard to land maybe if i slow it down the water will cushion the landing better? But too slow and it feels like the board sinks guess i'll have to keep tweeking

Lots of factors play into this. Generally 20-22 MPH is ideal. Rider skill, weight/board size & shape, Type of riding, all affect the optimum speed for you.

I think i do need to upgrade my board, but the funds aren't available right now. The board i have has the cheap Velcro boots that just go around your foot. I think a better boot might help too.

I'm a beginner at the wake boarding myself, but would Highly recommend a up to date board. I bought a Hyperlite State board and bindings and are very pleased with their performance and value. You'll have so much more stability you'll be landing jumps before you know it. Best of luck.

Are there any guys really getting into wakeboarding? my H210 should arrive this week. I am keen to see what people think of the wake for real, its a bit lat now but i would like to here someone say taht the wake on these things i spretty good. I understand that its not a dedicated wake boat but... you know....

Yes, I am. If you put a LOT of weight up in the bow and trim your outdrive up a bit, you can get a pretty nice wake out of your hull. I put about 700 lbs between my bow seats and it works out nicely.

I'm by no means a expert when it comes to wakeboarding, but bindings make the biggest difference. If money is tight, keep the same beginner board and upgrade the bindings. Those velcro bindings actually make it a little more dangerous. Basically, you want to keep your feet stuck to the board when you fall. If your foot pops out in mid-flight or on minor falls, there is a lot of leverage that can act on the other leg with the board twisting. Personal Experience: when I was sixteen and slalom skiing, my back foot came out when I fell. Results: broken growth-plate in the knee (4 month full leg cast). Upgrade those bindings!

Thats a good sign, i would hate to have a boat that looks the part and not have a decent wake, mine gets here in a few days. I remember i had the first (skiboat) with a tower in my town, only 6 years ago, now there are malibus and Tige's everywhere, i will now be the first to have a Four Winns, i dont want to be embarrased by the size of my wake.... :D

Thats cool, they cant match our ocean goine performance either. as long as i can throe a few big tricks i will b happy
