Well, here it is...the long awaited debut of the Sumo Tube. The water and air were finally warm enough to punish myself with this contraption. Sorry folks, no pics here, but there is video

Laugh and enjoy at my expense:

They make a device that goes onto the rope to avoid the splashing. That's one tow-a-ble I wouldn't try!! Your'e a better sport then me

The tube is a blast, but takes some getting used to. Once I start out, it seems to porpoise quite a bit. I'm not too sore for being the first time out this year, but not sure if it's from that or trying the wake skate for the first time. It's worth the entertainment value, you can float and bob in the water like a buoy which makes you much more visible that when you fall off a traditional tube.

For the $25 I paid for it, it's a great addition that will always be good for a few laughs.

So I've practiced a little bit and put together a little bit better video of the Sumo Tube:

I also posted a video of a friend barefooting from last weekend, quite the experience to watch close up.

That looks like it "might" be a little more fun than the first video.....how does it feel when you wipeout though? Looks like that thing would plant you face first.

It's becoming a lot more fun as I get used to it, but it's a little bit of a learning curve when starting out. Wiping out isn't all that bad, since you're surrounded by tube it's more getting splashed in the face than anything. I've been wearing goggles, which seem to help a lot in allowing me to see what's coming up. I've learned that by adjusting your weight in the tube towards the back allows you to plane out better and avoid the porpoising that make the first video look so uncomfortable. It's fun to watch friends try it out though and have the same experience.

What lake was the first video filmed on? One of the buildings I saw in the background reminded me of the launch site on Lake Okauche in Oconomowoc.

We were on Pewaukee Lake that day, but the scenery for both lakes is similar. You're probably thinking of the Golden Mast where they have launching available.
