Hi
I have a liberator 211 from 86 with mercruiser's hi-performace 320 efi 88-89 that I bought last summer. and the problem is that I only get it to rev 4100-4200, and the engine's max wot is 5400. So does anyone know what the problem could be?

is grateful for all answers :)

Could be many things....what pitch prop are you running? To much and you gain top end speed, lose hole shot and some rpm. Too little and you get the hole shot, lose top speed and can over rev and blow the motor apart.

The diameter of prop needs to be correct for your setup too...in short research the prop.

Are you trimming drive once on top and running? Is it trailered or a slipped boat....buildup on hull? Fuel linkage allowing full pull on throttle? Fuel filters...fuel pump...is running smoothe at 4600 then prob not fuel supply issue.

Wwhats boating conditions? Water conditions...altitude...etc

Timing, plug gaps, octane fuel used....could be mix of several issues.

When you get it right doesn't mean running it at 5400 is a good idea......also, are engine components original or has someone swapped heads for lesser ones? Compression check may be good idea too.

If the engine used to run higher rpm and wont now, I would check the fuel filter first then the efi controller.
If it never has reached 5400 rpm still replace the fuel filter and try a smaller pitch prop...
