According to the manual, EFI coils are wired through the oil sender. Maybe his was wired this way as well. Other than that, there is nothing in the diagnostics section for his symptoms. Boot it across the lake to Brighton and I'll take a look for you.

Still no word from mechanic (via buddys wife). Last I heard he was looking at the charging/electrical system. More to follow...

Come on over to this side of the lake and you can help us tow it in next time I take it on a shake down....lol, I shouldn't say that, because I prob just jinxed myself. 18 pack of Labatts for whoever provides the tow. 8)

Update....bad voltage regulator. Mechanic figured the cheapest and most permanent fix was to convert it over to an alternator, so thats what he did and she is up and running. Soooo, anybody out there with this vintage FW's, if ya got probs with charging, ya might wanna look into changing over to alternator.

Update part 2...well, we had my buds boat out on Saturday. Everything was going good, then suddenly it just lost all acceleration. Would move throttle forward, and it would just bog down like fuel filter was clogged. I towed her back to the dock and we called the mechanic. He was in the area, so he stopped down to the docks (he is a great guy).

Ok, now check this out: He raised the engine cover, looked around, then went to helm, turned key and it started right up, ran great. My buddy jumped in with him, they closed the engine hatch and away they went. They flew up and down the river twice, then suddenly it lost acceleration again. I saw the mechanic get up, open engine hatch, then go back to helm, annnnd zoom! Off they go again. Soooo, long story short, he gets back to dock (hatch still open) and diagnoses a exhaust manifold leak. What was happening was exhaust (carbon monoxide) was filling the engine compartment and displacing the oxygen, starving the engine. Science!! So, exhaust manifold gasket is ordered and this should be the last (hahaha) fix my poor buddy needs to salvage the rest of summer.

Now, I have read several threads here that folks have posted about their boats having similiar symptoms as my buds. We all pitch in with tips on fuel filters, sparkplugs, bad gas, etc.....Check your exhaust manifolds. It could be a leak....
