Nice outcome getting the old pump to work. I would recommend installing the new pump as a back up. I have had a water cooling pipe blow off and the boat fills up with water VERY quickly. ( Mechanic replaced old hoses and one hose clamp failed, but thankfully no damage done.)

Factory bilge pumps are hopelessly inadequate, which is why I will be installing a 1100g/h pump on my boat. I plan to install it on the side wall in the bilge but attached to an Aluminium L-plate, exiting via a second threw hull fitting next to the existing bilge pump location. Will be permanently wired on Auto float switch.

I used to race ocean going yachts and our skipper installed an irrigation pump attached to the motor, sucking up from the bilge and exiting out next to the exhaust. With the pressure from the pump it was almost a jet ski. Never thought we would have to use it until we snapped the mast in a dirty storm and put a hole through the deck and out the side of the hull. Normally we would have had to bail our asses off and could have lost the boat but we made it back with only a wet floor. ( and soiled underwear).

Interesting. It would be easy enough to wire directly to the battery - it has a built in auto switch - and get some 3/4 inch hose which I could leave attached and just throw over the gunwale if this one ever clicked in because the factory one was not keeping up. The trick is to attach it to the bilge area, which is nearly completely covered by the engine.
