2002 Johnson 150 Outboard

I have only had the boat for a couple of seasons. Last season I never had to use the primer bulb. If I gave it a squeeze it was hard. Starting was quick.

This season it seems I have to use it all the time and it is soft when squeezed. If I go to start up after a few days of not using the boat. I have to prime it before I can start. Once primed it runs fine and typically restarts quickly (one incident this weekend but not sure it was related).

Is there a check valve somewhere that is failing ? I don't smell lots of fuel (other than the normal quick whiff when starting and 2 cycle outboard), so I wasn't looking for a fuel line leak.

Ideas?

(Also I always keep the tank full and fuel right after boating)

There is an "Anti Siphon" valve at the outlet of the gas tank. It acts as a check valve, and also provides a resistance to free flow if your fuel line breaks and lays lower than the tank level. They have been known to get clogged. Can also loose it's check valve function if dirty. Cheap part, so generally replaced instead of repaired.

Search Anti Siphon for previous posts.
